Plant Spirit Healing: A Guide to Working with Plant Consciousness ReviewThis accessible yet comprehensive book is a tremendous gift of both wisdom and practical application on how the universe actually works and how to tap in and play a part yourself. Plant Spirit Healing is about the difference between knowing about a plant (available through book learning and use) and experiencing its spirit - where you merge with it, communicate through an exchange of insights, and achieve a full and lasting relationship. This book benefits from Pam Montgomery having taught and honed this material many times. If you cannot take Montgomery's apprenticeship program and experience her own ebullient spirit, this book is the next best thing.
Emphasizing that each person's knowing and experience of different plants may be different in what is really a Both/And, rather than an Either/Or, universe, Montgomery guides you to find your own plant spirit guides appropriate for this time in your life journey. Chances are who they are will surprise you.
This remarkable book takes the reader on a journey from (possibly) skeptical interest in plant spirits, to plausible, to possible, to practical. At no point does the journey include religious overtones or spacey far-out suggestions.
Montgomery builds a foundation based on physical and energetic qualities of both people and plants. Each new parcel of knowledge is presented in a flowing sequence based upon previously explained information. The trip is full of "of course" moments where you recognize that you already knew what she is presenting, but perhaps did not know where to place it in your established body of knowledge. As much as anything this book greatly expands and updates your established body of knowledge.
Fine-tuning gathered from years of teaching workshops and apprentice programs has honed Montgomery's understanding of the pace and paths by which people can not only learn, but can experience and assimilate deeper knowledge. Her expertise allows her to lead the reader through these layers of knowing in the transparent, uncluttered, way that characterizes the best of guides.
The Theme is Relationships.
Despite years of loving plants, I would not have thought that there were so many ways to understand plants, or so many tools for deepening my relationships with them. Indeed, relationship is what this book is all about, including establishing, fostering, and nurturing actual relationships with plants. This includes being open, observant, respectful, and enjoying. It involves appreciating plants and learning from them and moving those relationships on to partnerships. This carries on the theme of Montgomery's previous book, Partner Earth (1997) in which she encourages humans to take responsibility and action to be co-creators and partners with Earth, rather than passive children of Mother Earth.
At one point in Plant Spirit Healing Pam likens establishing a new relationship with a plant to a relationship with a potential lover. Just think about that. It includes breath exchange, attention, respect. One is open, observant, eager to learn all one can about this person who suddenly seems to glow with light. One is gentle and respectful and wants to spend every available moment with the new love, gently growing knowledge and love and a shared history, exploring all facets and aspects of the beloved.
Organization and arrangement
The book's organization is clear and accessible. Different learning modes are accommodated as each chapter presents the material in three modes. Chapters begin with a journal entry from Montgomery's daily interactions with nature and how it feeds her developing wisdom. We catch a glimpse of her slipping into communication with plants and the landscape. Next, the bulk of the chapter is a descriptive exposition of the topic. This is followed by examples which illustrate the ideas and techniques just presented with experiences Montgomery has had with her clients, or that her students have experienced.
The book is divided into three parts, The Theoretical Basis for Plant Spirit Healing, The Practical Application of Plant Spirit Healing and Plant Allies, a section on specific plants. Christian Hummel recently wrote "We are living in a time when ancient principles that have been espoused for ages from Vedic texts to Native American philosophies are being validated by science - a meeting point between science and spirituality where these principles are being tested and proven to be true." [July 2007 Wisdom magazine p. 28 "Accessing the Creative Matrix: The Secret to Healing the Earth" ] Montgomery presents much of this material in Part One by distilling and presenting the essence of a large and varied body of new scientific information in an accessible format that relates to plant spirit and communication. She has gleaned knowledge from others - both ancient traditions and recent science - and incorporates it straightforwardly for easy absorption without being academic. Part Two is a practical journey where actually meeting and getting to know plants is facilitated with a range of different techniques. Part Three introduces the plants as their fully embodied selves giving a sense of the expansive beings they are.
Plant Spirit Healing teaches about how sprit moves in the world, thus bringing spirit into reality, instead of keeping it in the abstract realm of religion. We are given a handbook to understand the wonder of plants, and a guidebook of practical techniques and exercises to form personal, intimate, real relationships with plant beings whose importance, variety, beauty, gifts and outright wisdom are usually ignored. The result reminds me of my joy at the animal tracks revealed by the first snowfall in what has been a gray and lonely November landscape. The joyful feeling of not being alone. The deep knowledge that I share this landscape with other beings who are aware of themselves, who live full and interesting lives, and who are open to knowing me and interacting with me.
Plants have been calling to many of us for the past several decades. Chances are they are somehow calling you as well. This is a guidebook to answer that call, probably in a deeper way than you ever imagined. By the time you have read it you will have established relationships with plant beings, taken a deep journey and found missing parts of yourself.

Living with Joy: Keys to Personal Power and Spiritual Transformation (Earth Life Series) ReviewIncredibly profound in content.
Having gone through the whole "Conversations With God" (CWG) series as well as "Friendship with God", I wondered how this book would compare in principle--and I'm happy to say quite favorably. It seems truth IS universal, despite varying styles.
Whereas CWG was mind-blowing in it's eloquence, "Living With Joy" seemed almost child-like in it's gentle manner. Like a patient teacher, it takes your hand and walks you through precisely what it means to live a life based on joy. And what a delightful, refreshing, thought-provoking and ultimately life-changing stroll it is.
I especially liked Orin's admonition to take what he says and use what resonates for you, personally, and leave the rest behind. A good principle, I feel, when reading anything pertaining to our individual growth paths. Having said that, I found that almost all of it resonated with me, deeply and profoundly. You may, too.
Read it for the light it can bring. Live it for the positive changes it can invoke. Love it for the joy we can all share and partake of. Highly recommended.Living with Joy: Keys to Personal Power and Spiritual Transformation (Earth Life Series) Overview

Tasting the Universe: People Who See Colors in Words and Rainbows in Symphonies Review
Does the following make sense to you?
"`What color is your A?' Carol asked me one night in Chelsea.
`Yellow,' I replied.
`My dear, A is definitely pink. Perhaps there are vitamins you could take.'"
If it does, there is a strong possibility that you may be a synesthete. This quote from Tasting the Universe highlights the way people who have synesthesia perceive the world. They may see particular letters or words in color, they may strongly visualize a color upon hearing a specific musical note, or they may even taste the words that other people speak. These are indeed, "strange visions," to use the words of British scientist Sir Francis Galton. Tasting the Universe is a cross between journalism and biography in which author, who predictably enough is a synesthete, tells the story of discovering and living with what she calls her precious secret. Readers are next introduced to celebrities who are also synesthetes. Norman Mailer believed that Marilyn Monroe exhibited characteristics based upon her preferences of colored vegetables when cooking. Violinist Itzhak Perlman describes his relationship to musical notes and color.
Sir Robert Cailliau speaks about coming up with the three w's for the world wide web (for him the w appeared green and so imagining people typing three green w's in a row was a wonderful thought). Structurally, Seaberg positions the experiencing of phenomena alongside scientific research but she seems a bit hesitant about wanting to fully understand her synesthesia, as do a couple of her interviewees. The suspicion is that too much knowledge might potentially destroy the ineffable gift. Perhaps this is justified. While it seems most people are born with synesthesia and carry it for life, Seaberg discovers one woman who outgrew her ability. A relationship also seems to exist between synesthesia and Asperger's syndrome. We meet Daniel Tammet, famously known for being able to memorize Pi to 22,500 places and who once learned Icelandic in a single week when challenged to be interviewed in the language. He describes his explorations between his
Asperger's, ability to memorize, and the relationship to synesthesia. For readers questioning whether they are synesthetes, Seaberg prints a list of criteria created by Dr. Richard E. Cytowic, who is widely credited with bringing synesthesia back into mainstream discourse. Included in the list: that the experiences are be automatic, involuntary, and consistent. In my mind these criteria clearly distinguish those who have synesthesia from those who simply make associations or feel a color when hearing music. Seaberg also presents synesthesia as a continuum rather than an on/off switch. The experiences of individuals may differ widely, from seeing soft colors when viewing particular letters to color relationships that intervene in all aspects of their life. Imagine, as the author does, viewing all the text of this review in color. Seaberg finally explores connections between synesthesia, the spiritual, and religions, and she says that synesthesia may initiated by deep meditation.
I tend to side with those who view synesthesia as having a neural basis. One question the book did not answer was the reason why those who see colors describe them with common color terms such as red, blue, green, and pink, instead of yellowish-gray, or other desaturated, complex colors. Perhaps it relates to the way color language enters a society (v. Basic Color Terms by Berlin & Kay) or perhaps it merely demonstrates the lack of a widely known complex language with which to describe complex colors or maybe it relates to the physiology of the human eye/brain system. There's a hint for further research. Tasting the Universe is a wonderful foray into the amazing world of the synesthete. The book promotes the personal story over scientific jargon as a means of inviting reading by the general public. Those who recognize themselves or who have an ongoing interest in synesthesia will find an extensive list of resources that demonstrates the author's commitment to sharing and creating community. -- Christopher Willard is a reviewer for BookPleasures.Tasting the Universe: People Who See Colors in Words and Rainbows in Symphonies Overview

Greater Community Spirituality: A New Revelation (New Knowledge Library) ReviewI have read this book and studied M. Summers other books for the last nine years. This book and the other New Knowledge Library books have changed my life. They have helped me to see the bigger picture and it is big. In addition, Greater Community Spirituality has a companion study book, Steps to Knowledge, which brought about profound change in my view of life and myself. It was difficult to transition from my old perceptions, but I wouldn't go back to my former way of thinking for all the money in the world. These books are life changing. I would recommend them to serious students who are looking for Truth and willing to face anything to find it.Greater Community Spirituality: A New Revelation (New Knowledge Library) Overview

Secrets of the Lost Mode of Prayer: The Hidden Power of Beauty, Blessings, Wisdom, and Hurt Review"There's almost a universal sense that we have ancient magical powers within us. From the time we're children, we fantasize about our ability to do things that are beyond the realm of reason and logic. And why not? While we're children, the rules that say miracles can't happen in our lives have not yet been ingrained in us to the point that they become limits in our beliefs." - From the book
From Christianity to Hinduism, Sufism to Judaism, prayer serves as a vital cornerstone to spiritual traditions worldwide. It has been said that prayer is talking to the Divine, while meditation is listening for the answer. But what if the body--our physical, earthen vessel--contains a lost mode of prayer? And what if sacred texts and traditions reference this type of prayer--some of which were lost during human editing?
In Secrets of the Lost Mode of Prayer, author Gregg Braden explores ideas both scientific and spiritual in the quest for understanding the mechanics of prayer and its effects on "reality". Explaining quantum physics and "The Field", Braden demonstrates how "reality" is simply the mirror of our beliefs. That is, the sum total of our experience is, in fact, the result--indeed, the projection--of our beliefs.
By praying "for" peace, Braden surmises, are we not inviting more war by acknowledging that peace is not already here? While this may seem like New Age gobbledygook, the author presents convincing evidence that spiritual traditions and avatars knew a secret to prayer that was beyond mere words--a mode based on "feeling".
The Gnostic Gospels and the New Testament were edited for various reasons, but Braden shares an intriguing version of John 16:24: "Ask without hidden motive and be surrounded by your answer." He then relates a story about accompanying a Native American to the sacred medicine wheel to "pray rain". Not pray FOR rain...but to :pray rain". Rather than supplicate a deity to provide what isn't there, this particular spiritual tradition advocated being surrounded by the answer. That is, imagining the smell of impending rain, actually "feeling" the droplets on an upturned face, and visualizing lush flora.
Echoing this same idea, Braden facilitated a 22-day pilgrimage to Tibet, and the monks and nuns shared instructions for a way to pray that was largely lost to the West because of fourth-century Biblical edits. Preserved in ancient texts and traditions, this "lost" mode of prayer has no words or outward expression, but is based solely on feeling.
Braden cites scientific studies on prayer and the Quantum Field, showing how the "observer" affects reality not only on an individual level, but also on a larger, societal level. Braden also shares the wisdom from various spiritual traditions--from Jesus to the Dalai Lama, Navajo to Gnostics--pointing to why we are here on Earth and how to make the best out of our Earthly journey.
Peppered with poignant personal anecdotes, Secrets of the Lost Mode of Prayer reveals five powerful secrets to prayer and spiritual growth:
1.Our Lost Mode of Prayer - Braden shares the powerful secret of "feeling" prayer and being surrounded by the answer.
2.Hurt is the Teacher, Wisdom is the Lesson - Braden says that balance is not all it's cracked up to be. Using fractal geometry as an example, he explains that just when things seem to be "just so", chaos ensues. However, the Universe never brings about any situation until we already have the tools to handle it.
3.Blessing is the Release - Describing blessing as an "emotional lubricant", Braden discusses how "frozen" hurts can cause illness, and how blessing can move us beyond confusing and frustrating situations--allowing these feelings to move THROUGH us.
4.Beauty is the Transformer - Using the raging fires of Taos as an example--as well as encounters with "imperfect" people--the author movingly shows readers how beauty surrounds us always.
5.Creating Your Own Prayers - Childhood rhymes and traditional singsong prayers may hold the key to a powerful mode of praying.
Printed on 194 glossy pages with an attractive "puffy" covers, Secrets of the Lost Mode of Prayer taps into a potent spiritual "technology" that enhances life, heals hurts, and transforms perspectives. Sharing personal stories, scientific theory, and sacred wisdom from several traditions, Braden offers humanity a powerful blueprint for consciously creating a beautiful, peaceful reality.
I loved this book! I felt spiritually nourished while reading it, often moved to tears by Braden's stories. But I also felt anticipation and excitement, especially at the thought that if humanity gets a hold of this "lost mode" of prayer--and puts these simple yet profound ideas into practice--that anything is possible.Secrets of the Lost Mode of Prayer: The Hidden Power of Beauty, Blessings, Wisdom, and Hurt Overview

Summer's Path (Expanded Edition) ReviewSummer's Path is a book that masterfully achieves a rich and paradigm shifting integration of the sacred and the mundane. The story opens with Don, dying of pancreatic cancer at far too young, uninsured and scrimping on proper treatment in a valiant effort to save his wife the lone burden of lifelong debt. However, the arrival, through dreams at first, of an unexpected spiritual ally (Robert), transforms what first appears to be a desperate death sentence into an adventure of personal reclamation and catalytic transformation.
Blum takes the reader on a journey where even something as seemingly menacing as cancer becomes instead a teacher - an opportunity for healing, liberation, and a deeper understanding of life's ultimate mysteries. Don, his wife, and I would say even Robert in the end, are all catapulted into experiences and realizations that bring them into an ever deepening awareness of the profound intelligence behind all of life's dramas.
Expect to be both uplifted and challenged by this book. You will grow in unexpected ways as you follow this story that "erases the line between life and death." Part of Blum's gift is his ability to articulate the possibilities of spiritual resurrection without glossing over the simultaneous realities of grief, loss, and the painful personal surrenders sometimes necessary to gather the pearls of spiritual growth. Because of this, Summer's Path is a treasure of spiritual authenticity, a story of mystical human-ness that speaks to the trials and insights of every human journey.Summer's Path (Expanded Edition) Overview

Dancing with Life: Buddhist Insights for Finding Meaning and Joy in the Face of Suffering ReviewMost of the Dharma books that I've read fall into two categories: lightweight new-age fluff or heavily-footnoted scholarship. This book avoids both extremes. It's very compactly written, with no apparent filler. (If anything, I think he is too brief in touching on some important points.) I find the title of the book to be a bit unfortunate, but it's actually appropriate to the subject matter.
The book is structured around the Four Noble Truths, and as a long-time Buddhist (with a strong predilection for scholarly detail) I thought that it couldn't teach me anything new. It did, though, and on a number of levels. You might think you know all about the 4NT, but this version from the Samyutta Nikaya really adds a new dimension, and is directly applicable to one's practice.
In short, I give this book a pretty-much unqualified rave. A few stylistic weaknesses and an overuse of italics, but in content it's deeply inspiring and immediately useful.Dancing with Life: Buddhist Insights for Finding Meaning and Joy in the Face of Suffering Overview

Cosmic Consciousness ReviewThis study is from the early days of the psychiatric profession when its practitioners could still write seriously of spiritual and mystical matters without being ostracised or ridiculed as "unscientific." Briefly, the author personally experienced a sudden episode of enlightenment and rapture that, while it was only of brief duration, changed his outlook on life forever. He spent the rest of his life, he was in his mid-thirties at the time, trying to figure out what had happened to him, and if there were any others.
What he found was that such sudden occurances of enlightenment, these epiphanies, had been occuring to mystics, philosophers, writers, and artists all through recorded history. Not only that, but they were occuring with increased frequency as time went on. Bucke concluded that this marked an evolutionary trend. Carried out to its logical conclusion, he postulated that one day "cosmic consciousness" as he termed it, would be as common in the human race as self consciousness currently is. He based this on the manner in which the ancestors of man slowly climbed from the simple consciousness of animals to an almost universal state of self consciousness.
Having experienced a simular event in my mid-thirties (remember, it happens to varying degrees), I found this book to be immensely personally relevant- as it has proven to be to many of us for over one hundred years now.Cosmic Consciousness Overview

The Art of Spiritual Peacemaking: Secret Teachings from Jeshua ben Joseph ReviewI have studied "A Course in Miracles" for years, and in my opinion "The Art of Spiritual Peacemaking" is the bridge that I have been waiting for. I hesitate to call it the sequel to "A Course in Miracles", but it is the same information and practices put into more straightforward and understandable language. I am only on lesson 29 out of 365, but I can tell you that the insights that I have gained already have changed my life on a daily basis. I can't wait to get up the next morning and read the daily reading and lesson. The practices are simple yet profound when applying them to your day. I cannot recommend this book enough to those on the spiritual path of getting in touch with their soul and the only reality that will bring you true peace. It has helped me to forgive and to see myself as mistaken in the way I have been looking at the world instead of "guilty". For anyone who has stuggled with "A Course in Miracles" you will find this to be the bridge that you have been waiting for!The Art of Spiritual Peacemaking: Secret Teachings from Jeshua ben Joseph Overview

DailyOM: Learning to Live ReviewWhile most of the information in Taylor's book is "golden rule" common sense, it is the type of information that we easily forget when we become consumed by a daily grind or rut. Reminding ourselves of our worth, our uniqueness, our ability to inspire drowns in our need to raise family and pay bills. Taylor's book is the antidote. It does not preach, brag, or condescend. Instead, it is full of necessary, yet compassionate daily reminders that can make you soar above the ruts and realize the ease and joy that life can hold. Inspiration: Your Ultimate Calling ReviewI first encountered the words of Wayne Dyer 5 or so years ago on PBS. I liked what I heard. Though nothing he says is original, I did like the way he presented it.
The first book of his I read was "There's A Spiritual Solution to Every Problem", the book on which the first lecture I watch on PBS was based.
I was inspired by, and enjoyed that book. As I did the next two or three. But recently, and especially with this latest volume, he simply repackages his older books in a different form. Ironic for a book about inspiration.
I want to be clear that I have no intrinsic problem with some of the concepts he talks about. But this book, and his lectures, and overall attitude lately, as opposed to my first exposure to him, are becoming quite the turn off.
In this volume, there were somevery glaring examples of either contradiction, strict unfairness, and at times, ego...despite Dyer's commitment against the ego.
I also found it very repetative, but I realize he warns of that early on. However just because something is acknowledged, does not mean it should be accepted.
The following items bothered me the most, and I would be interested to learn if others readers agree with these bothersome items.
-The oft mentioned assumption that he is personally the reincarnated spirit of St. Francis of Asissi.
-He is not very supportive of his friends. To him it seems that to even be in the presence of an unhappy person insults him. His reason being that since life is perfect and nothing wrong EVER happens to us, being unhappy or scared of something is simply a low energy, and one thathe is unwilling to stand inthe presence of. He even mentions a story of a good friend of his who started to be worried about the leaness of his business. He had legitimate concerns about going under. Not thoughts of evil or suicide or anything, just some natural worry when the finances did not look good.
Dyer, in the book, tells us "just about the time I was no longer willing to be exposed to this sort of thing..." Meaning that in his perfect life, there are no accidents, and so, he did not want to be around his supposed friend, because being a little scared or worried is ungodlike. He ignores the fact that in order to help people, especially friends, you have to be in the midst of bad things sometimes. He often quotes Mother Teresa. Yet if shehad told all of those sick people to simply "think about what you were doing when you first became sick, and stop doing it!" she would not bethe saintwe recognize her as today.
-Secondly, multiple times in just about every chapter, he plugged one or more of his other books, books by colleagues, or books published by Hay House. It is allright to acknowledge your previous works, or those of others, but the frequency with which he does so in thisvolume is disingenuous at best. Product placement, at worst.
-I call one's attention to page 106 of the book. Dyer's "12 Step Program to Simplicity." Items 10 and 11.
Item 10 calls for us to "Eschew Debt" and to live within our means...not purchases or buying things we do not absolutley need, in order to live the life we agreed with God to havebefore we were born.
The very next item, number 11, instructs us to "forget about cash value." He proceeds, on the very same page, to tell us that we should not look at the dollar signs when we are "inspired" to do something like take a trip, eat a nice dinner out on the town, or be comfortable. How can one eschew debt, and yet ignore the dollar value of an item they are inspired to posess?
-Pages 110-113. The Ram Dass Story.
This is among the more insulting parts of the book. He tells the story of one ofhis mentors, and reproduces a letter he has posted on his (Dyer) own website. In it, Dyer tells of how gentle and wonderful Dass hasbeen, and how important this "dear friend" has been throughouthis life, especially since coming to live in Maui in the twilight of his life.
Then, Dyer has the audacity to solicit you and I for money to help buy Dass his own house! In Maui!
This book "eschewing" the ideaof possesions, money, and doubting that the universe will take care of everything you ever could want, is asking us to pay for his mentor's housing conditions, simply because Dyer thinks he is "a wonderful man".
How about this...Dyer isso fond of "giving something of yourself everyday..." how about cutting into your millions of dollars and cutting a check for your hero to own his own house? You can afford it, I cannot. Or if you cannot swallow that, cut him a check large enough to coverhis moving expenses out of Maui (one of the most expensive places on earth to live), and to a location far more affordable. If what is said about Dass is true, he should be happy anywhere he can find to live. They arrogance of a millionaire asking for donations to save his "mentor" who lives just down the street from him was nearly enough to get me to stop reading the book right there.
Furthermore, the entire business bore little relevence to the rest of the chapter, which was ostensibly about "Faith Banishes all doubt".
Unless you can sucker the general public into buying your guru a home in Maui.
-The name dropping throughout the book. He studied with, worked with, talked to, helped the luggage problems of...fill in the blank with celebrity X. The encounter with Renee Zellwegger outlined on pages 144-146 (complete with photo copy of a note she gave him) is the most glaring example of this.
-His mentioning more of the great things he did "in spirit", such as throwing away a mashed up burger he saw on the floor of a McDonald's, page 150 or so. I love how picking up a burger being trampled is heroic, but heneeds ourhelp in paying for his guru's home....
My point is made. There are other things, but honstly, I do not feel like looking for the page number, as I would have to skim the book again.
I am finding Dyer to be more annoying as time goes on. By his own advice about annoying people, I should send himthoughts of love. I would do so, in proportion to how much this book annoyed me, but I also have a day job.Inspiration: Your Ultimate Calling Overview

The Seeker's Guide (previously published as The New American Spirituality) ReviewI have been to many "new age" workshops and have read tons of the books available on self-help and spirtuality. Some of it was great, but often I felt as if something was missing. I wondered what relevance the spirtual journey had to my psycholigical growth and I worried that my concerns with psychology were too self-absorbing. Lesser captures the essence of this tension in her book. She looks at how the spiritual and psychological path can intersect in a way that anyone can understand - and she does it so well that I found myself actually saying "ah ha!" as I read along. She also speaks in a frank, candid way about the "new age" movement, and that is really refreshing. It sounds like she has met absolutely everybody in the field and talks about them all as human beings instead of big stars. What a relief!
I also really liked her own story, because it made me see how much we are all seekers on a path. The way she talks about her ups and downs makes the rest of what she says seem even more real. You can tell that she has a great feeling for anyone who is out there trying to figure things out in their own way. It was encouraging. She wrote one part about a poem she and her husband return to whenever they have to make a dificult decision because it has a message that they learn from again and again. I was really struck by the simplicity of doing that and I thought, "wow, I could do that!" There were a bunch of those stories -she talked about things she did to keep herself on track that were simple, but took some thought, and reading them inspired me.
I guess that is really the bottom line. If anyone is on a path or thinking about learning more about different ways of exploring spirituality and self growth, this book is a real inspiration. It is also packed with a lot of information, as she quotes so many other teachers and writes about a lot of different traditions. I was impressed by how much she packed into it.
She also writes about the Omega, which I had never heard of. It sounds like a fasinating place so I was glad to find out about it.
Bottom line is, I recommend it - especially if you are one of those people who is yearning for some kind of spiritual connection or a more peaceful place inside yourself and you just don't know where to get started. It was really good.
I noticed I was the only one in the review area - anybody else out there read it?The Seeker's Guide (previously published as The New American Spirituality) Overview

Recreating Your Self Review"ReCreating Your Self" is based on concepts presented throughout the CWG series. However, it specifically elaborates on the "Recreating your reality" chapter from "Communion with God." I recommend reading "Communion with God" to fully grasp the enlightening process of recreating your Self.
There I found the concepts to be clear and to the point; the concepts are not lost between examples and commentary. After reading "Communion" I immediately began to transform my life (yes it's a powerful read). Don't worry Walsch, I understand I created this experience.Recreating Your Self Overview

Embracing The Now: Finding Peace And Happiness In What Is ReviewGina's written a powerfully clear book about living from presence (as Eckhart Tolle calls it) or essence as she does. The formidable opponent on such a path is of course ego. But ego is not to be resisted or fought against or repressed or denied. Instead, Gina explains how to accept the ego as it arises while still seeing through its various tricks for pulling one out of presence. She details the various emotions, judgments, fears, denials and mind games that are common tools of the ego in clear and easy-to-understand language. I find Gina's books to be as helpful as Eckhart's in the journey to living from presence. With this book in particular, I had an `aha moment' as Oprah calls them around my emotions. Although I had learned not to give attention to the stories and dramas of my mind, I was still paying untold amount of attention to my emotions. I felt them to be somewhat closer to truth because they seemed so intuitive and natural. I know realize that they are simply thoughts translated into bodily sensations and deserve no more analysis or attention than the mind. Of course, essence uses emotions such as joy or love or peace or acceptance and even sadness to guide us towards fulfilling our life plan with the eventual goal of awakening. It does not, however, use grief, depression, anger, jealousy or other such negative emotions.
Gina outlines the ego's mechanisms so clearly that it becomes difficult not to recognize, accept and thus heal them in oneself. All of this is in the service of greater peace, greater joy, and eventual liberation. The messages may be conceptually simple but in an ego and mind-dominated time and society, they are easy to forget. I enjoy reading Gina's words to remind me of what I know in my own heart to be the shining truth.Embracing The Now: Finding Peace And Happiness In What Is Overview

Your Soul's Plan: Discovering the Real Meaning of the Life You Planned Before You Were Born ReviewIn "Courageous Souls" Robert Schwartz not only discusses the concept of pre-birth planning, but he also provides an in-depth look at both the pre-birth planning process (which occurs while in spirit before each incarnation), as well as the various reasons a soul may have chosen the particular challenges they're dealing with in this lifetime.
What I found particularly interesting were the personal interviews the author did with several participants & the subsequent sessions with various mediums/psychics to assess each person's pre-birth planning sessions. Together these sessions provided background information regarding each person's challenge & the reasons their soul chose that challenge for this lifetime. The types of challenges discussed include: physical illness, parenting handicapped children, drug addiction & alcoholism, death of a loved one, & accidents.
Reading this book allows one to consider a whole new way to look at life's challenges - a way where each challenge does in fact serve a purpose, and a high purpose at that! A way where there is no reason to blame or judge or hate - because we're able to recognize that each person on this earth is also serving a purpose.
Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in spirituality & the concept of pre-birth planning - it's truly inspiring.P.S. This book also offers the names & contact information for the psychics/mediums who worked with the author on this book - a great addition for those of us who would like some assistance in accessing our own pre-birth planning sessions!

Ultimate Journey ReviewIn his previous books, Out of the Body Travels written in 1973, and Far Journeys published in 1987 Monroe does not quite attain the level he has reached with this his third and best book.
Now he has behind him more than 30 years of experience in astral travel and practice, which is clearly reflected in this excellent, pager turner narration. This last book of the trilogy is the frosting of the cake in relation to his last two, which were rudimentary works of a pioneer.
Monroe is convinced there will be complete emotional and astral freedom in the 35-century for himself, and the group of souls that comprises his oversoul. Sounds like a long time assuming time has the same meaning in other realities as it does here. (Which does not, since time is an illusion created by clocks calendars, the orbit of Earth around the Sun, rotating on its axis, and mortal mind beliefs).
"you make your own reality" and Monroe proved it while discovering reality is a hologram type of illusion one hundred percent mentally created and imagined. He does not try to mix his discoveries with superstitions of any sort but keeps his wonderful discoveries uncontaminated.
Eventually we all, at our right moment, will evolve to reach a merger with our personal oversoul who as well is in an endless adventure of progression.Ultimate Journey Overview

How Would Love Respond: Imagine If You Were Given a Gift So Powerful That You Knew You Had to Share It With the World ReviewWhen I was first asked to examine this book several months ago, I was not sure what to expect.
I had been told that Kurek Ashley was a kind of antipodean Tony Robbins. Nothing wrong with that: I have a great deal of respect for Tony's work. I then heard that Kurek had been in movies, held a record for fire walking and had helped a volleyball team to an Olympic gold medal, as well as propelling forward the lives of countless other people in all walks of life.
So I thought that I knew what I was getting: some sort of high-energy motivator. Then I met the author and discovered something very different. Certainly he is passionate, highly energetic and always positive. But there was another quality to him as well: he had a completely unexpected humility and clarity about what he wants to do for other people. I don't often meet someone with such evident integrity. He told an amazing story of being involved in the most terrible tragedy in which his best friend was killed. But then the dead friend reappeared to him and asked for his help. I had wondered whether he might have had some kind of breakdown. Instead I found a man who is remarkably level headed, and who has absolutely no reason to tell a story that could have damaged his reputation. Far from having had a breakdown, he had experienced a breakthrough. So for all these reasons I was eager to read this book and discover more of the story and Kurek's message.
I only review a small number of the books that I read, and I am not given to hyperbole, but Kurek's book is magnificent! The fact that I read it twice is unusual enough in itself. The book begins with an amazingly candid story of hardship and tragedy, and of the incredible series of experiences that ultimately transformed Kurek into someone very different. He becomes a shining example of what can happen to someone who opens his or her heart and mind. Though he became known as a motivator, as you read the book it becomes clear that he now inspires people to transform themselves in the most extraordinary way. This is a not just another feel good book. It presents a precise map for creating a different kind of life, and one that is in the reach of most of us. I really do believe that it will change many lives.
Very highly recommended.

The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself ReviewI simply cannot say enough great things about this profound book! The Untethered Soul gets right down to business answering some of the deepest, soul searching questions I'd had for years but didn't know whom to ask. It's almost as if the author has seen into the inner-workings of my mind!
With very straight forward examples, the book emphasizes the pitfalls of relying on the mind to come up with ideas for making ourselves happy. The book points out that relying on the outside world for inner happiness just simply doesn't work. Happiness comes to us when we change and let go of ourselves at the deepest, innermost-level rather than changing the world outside.
The Untethered Soul helps to explain the crazy world around us where the unhampered ego creates conflict. This book is a step-by-step guide to the letting go of the ego - a process that may seem counter-intuitive initially, but ultimately leads to freedom from the nagging mind and heavy heart and directs you to the beauty of the self within.
The chapter on Contemplating Death has made me truly appreciate each living moment. I no longer want to waste time on energy depleting thoughts and feelings.
I am grateful that Michael Singer has written a book so deep that it could actually make a difference in people's lives and help to make the world a better place to live.
Consider yourself warned! Once you read this book, there is no turning back from The Untethered Soul within. The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself Overview
