Whole Life Transformation: Becoming the Change Your Church Needs ReviewI could not put this book down! Keith writes this book like a graceful invitation to his readers, and the invitation is one for a different kind of life, a life marked by intimacy with God and those around us. From the introduction to the last page I was amazed at how vulnerable, open, and honest this book is written. Keith identifies through his own experience the many ways that people in ministry and life in general get caught up in a kind of life that leaves little room for loving relationships- a fast-paced and restless life, anxiety to perform and produce, and a white-knuckled need to control the outcomes of life. All of these things leave us feeling sapped, but Keith offers his readers helpful real-life ways to learn like disciples the "easy yoke" of Jesus, and bring His change into every area of life.
I would recommend this book to anyone desiring deep and lasting changes in this life under the Lordship of Jesus, I would even recommend this book to those who are curious if such a way of life even exists. One warning: this book is not a quick fix self-help book, it is an invitation to lasting change. And I would not recommend this book to those who are comfortable and content with a reduced forgiveness-only gospel. This is not a book for those waiting to die to go to heaven, it is for those who want a piece of heaven in their life here and now.Whole Life Transformation: Becoming the Change Your Church Needs Overview

The Ten Things to Do When Your Life Falls Apart: An Emotional and Spiritual Handbook ReviewI can safely say that this book jumped off the shelf in a bookstore precisely because my life is coming apart. Had I read the reviews first, I probably wouldn't have purchased it, but having read the book now, probably two or three times, I highly recommend this gentle, easy read which has a way of making the reader feel that he/she is not alone. You are encouraged to read the chapters as needed and not necessarily in simultaneous order. The ten things outlined are not rocket science, but they are so logical and comforting to read, whether you are experiencing job loss, death, or any other various tragedies that are mentioned, but not singled out or dwelled upon. I started with the chapter on Simplifying, clearly a common theme in today's news, but this one hits home in a precise, memorable way, which encouraged me to not just clean out once, but go back and get rid of more and more. As the author explains, you cannot hope to deal with the clutter around you even when you are feeling 100%, but when everything else is coming apart, it is essential to free up your surroundings.
The chapter on "Letting Go", again not a new concept, but written in a conversational way that makes sense when your life doesn't... says, "You can't begin to fly when you have concrete on your feet." Take it for what it's worth. If you think this is corny, so be it, but for me it is a great spiritual and uplifting go-to manual. My head is swimming, thus I need the gift this author handed me at this specific time in my life.... order, peace and hope. And, one last thing, a chapter on the great healing value of crying. I really enjoyed the quick read, quick lift quality.

The Art of Spiritual Peacemaking: Secret Teachings from Jeshua ben Joseph ReviewI have studied "A Course in Miracles" for years, and in my opinion "The Art of Spiritual Peacemaking" is the bridge that I have been waiting for. I hesitate to call it the sequel to "A Course in Miracles", but it is the same information and practices put into more straightforward and understandable language. I am only on lesson 29 out of 365, but I can tell you that the insights that I have gained already have changed my life on a daily basis. I can't wait to get up the next morning and read the daily reading and lesson. The practices are simple yet profound when applying them to your day. I cannot recommend this book enough to those on the spiritual path of getting in touch with their soul and the only reality that will bring you true peace. It has helped me to forgive and to see myself as mistaken in the way I have been looking at the world instead of "guilty". For anyone who has stuggled with "A Course in Miracles" you will find this to be the bridge that you have been waiting for!The Art of Spiritual Peacemaking: Secret Teachings from Jeshua ben Joseph Overview

Discovering Our Spiritual Identity: Practices for God's Beloved ReviewThis is a superb book. Not only is it insightful with its presentation of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ, it provides deeply life-changing exercises and practices that will help any "follower" along the way. I have read and worked through the exercises of many, many spiritual formation/disciplines books and I think this one has been one of my favorites. Maybe it was the way the author, Trevor Hudson, writes... maybe it is the formatting of the book, or maybe it is simply the exercises themselves. Maybe it is all of the above. In any event, this has been a delightful read. I continue to think about the concepts introduced in the exercises, and as such, my thoughts are continually brought back to focus on the object of those thoughts, Christ Jesus. I believe this is the resultant objective of the book, Discovering our Spiritual Identity, and that would qualify it as a success to my thinking.
The book is sectioned into sixteen sessions consisting of an objective idea (aka Holy Experiment), a reading to introduce the idea-experiment, a written assignment or two, and practical assignments with discussion points. While the book (workbook) is certainly capable for individuals, I think it would be best served working through it with a partner or in a group of 3-5 people.
As I mentioned, I have participated in workbooks teaching spiritual disciplines and I have taught them in groups as well. I am thankful for this resource as it has provided me with another means of expressing with "utter simplicity and clarity the profound truths of Jesus Christ" (Dallas Willard).
Trevor Hudson concludes the workbook and exercises with pastoral gentleness, but somber warning and reminder; "Spiritual disciplines are not a way of earning salvation. They do not accumulate for us any heavenly merit or spiritual capital. Our acceptance by God, as we are, rests on grace alone." This is our reminder, but the reality of God's grace does not exclude the responsibility of those who are recipients of His grace from being diligent in the exercises of their growth to maturity as disciples of Christ. In that, Hudson shares the summary of activities worked through the book as spiritual commitments that will prove helpful in translating the life of Christ into "our" lives with specific and concrete terms. Ultimately, this translation is the formation of the Christ-life in every aspect and arena of life.
As always, I am grateful for books that are annotated will and provide a bibliography for additional research and reading; Hudson has included a list of both at the end of the book. I have marked this book and placed it alongside my most treasured resource material in my library for my own edification and for teaching others. I recommend it very highly.

Secrets of the Prophetic ReviewI hardly have words to express the blessing this book has been to my life. Reading about the prophetic is not new to me but this book was one of the most refreshing and faith inspiring books I've come across in a long time. Kim combines his life story, which is most interesting and encouraging, with solid bibilical teaching on the prophetic. Yet, it is not your usual prophetic fare as it reaches beyond the norm in seeking out bibilical truths about how God operates and seeks to communicate with us. In addition, Kim's writing style is down to earth, easy to understand and digest. But, please don't misunderstand his simple writing style for simple content. This book is stuffed with page after page of profound and life affecting statements, from which you will not walk away unchanged.Secrets of the Prophetic Overview
