The Glory of Heaven: The Truth about Heaven, Angels and Eternal Life ReviewThe excellence of "The Glory of Heaven" is that it dispels error and explains truth without going beyond scripture, without crossing over into speculation as other writers on this topic do. In addition to using scripture to rebut popular New Age ideas about the afterlife, MacArthur utterly demolishes Christendom's false notions, like soul sleep (no immediate presence with God) and purgatory (post-mortem suffering). He even challenges common evangelical theory about the place of "Abraham's bosom." The occupants of heavens are described, both angels and glorified humans, with the distinction made between sanctification and glorification. Finally, MacArthur clarifies seemingly contradictory verses about the nature of the place of heaven, such as some that imply a temple in heaven and others that do not. MacArthur envisions an eternal heaven that transcends space and time rather than one that is just a different name for the New Earth. Because of MacArthur's scripture-laden academic manner, this book may seem a bit tedious for those who prefer conversational or devotional styles, but at least it's faithful to the Bible. Encountering Heaven and the Afterlife: True Stories From People Who Have Glimpsed the World Beyond ReviewTrue confessions: I watch very little TV, so unlike the first reviewer, I thought this book was great, a real encouragement, and full of fantastic stories. Perhaps if you watch a lot of TV and have been exposed to these types of stories, this book might be boring. I couldn't put it down and came away hyped about Heaven!! I love life, and am trying to live it to the full, but when it is my time to die, this book reminded me that death and the life hereafter in the presence of God will be absolutely phenomenal. Healing Is a Choice: 10 Decisions That Will Transform Your Life and 10 Lies That Can Prevent You From Making Them Review
I was not expecting such a thick book when this one arrived from Thomas Nelson publishers. My first thought was that it would take months to get through all the material in the book. However, I have read most of the text and skipped the workbook parts so I feel that I can give a reasonable review.
The book is by well know author, Stephen Arterburn. Some other titles of Mr. Arterburn that you might recognize are Every Young Man's Battle, More Jesus, Less Religion: Moving from rules to relationship, and Every Man's Marriage. The author has a radio ministry and is a popular speaker.
The book is subtitled: 10 Decisions That Will Transform Your Life and 10 Lies That Can Prevent You From Making Them
There are ten chapters that correspond to the 10 decisions and lies. And a final chapter concluding his thoughts on healing wraps everything up. Each chapter has a workbook that is to be completed after reading the chapter. Each workbook includes additional reading, prayers, songs, poems, questions to answer and a few exercises.
On page 186 of the book, the author states, "This book is about healing choices." This really sums up the purpose of the book. Reading this book will not heal people of their problems and the author doesn't intend it to. Reading this book will allow people to see their need for healing and explore why they don't get the help they need. Once they understand their need, then the book helps them to know what the next step should be.
Although I am still a broken vessel, God is gently putting me back together. I am a little ways down the path of healing now, but I can see that if I had read this book in the beginning of my healing journey that it would have been very helpful.
The author speaks very candidly of his own brokenness in the book. He shares openly of his divorce and how it has affected his life. I appreciated his honest approach in getting to the heart of behaviors that seem noble but are really sinful.
I would recommend this book to anyone starting the journey towards healing. Anyone could benefit from the information here, but it is clearly written for Christians.Healing Is a Choice: 10 Decisions That Will Transform Your Life and 10 Lies That Can Prevent You From Making Them Overview

I flew through the pages, because I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next and how each story would end. Since each chapter is a true account of a personal story, I caught myself smiling, crying or amazed at how wonderfully God takes such care with each of his children. I highly recommend this book to anyone who struggles with their faith, has lost a loved one or just enjoys hearing about the awesome things that God does for us to remind us that He is with us. Azrael Loves Chocolate, Michael's A Jock: An Insider's Guide to What Your Angels Are Really Like ReviewThis is a book for EVERYONE, regardless of your religion.
I was hesitant at first about buying a new book on angels by a new author, but after years of reading about angels and never really making any connections with them, I was desperate to give this book a try. Heck, it was new, hopefully she had something to say that other authors (i.e. Doreen Virtue) hadn't.
I now can't live without this book and I've wound up give four copies away so far.
Azrael Loves Chocolate has to be the funniest, most open, most honest New Age book I have ever read. (I used to work in a New Age store, so I've read dozens.) Lysette keeps it real when talking about angels and to loosely quote her, she doesn't use all those woo-woo New Agey trappings that have just become the norm for the genre. Fresh, witty and sassy, Lysette paints the angels in a way that has made them more real to me than ever. I've learned that they're not just these solemn divine beings that we can go to for help, but they have personalities, and they have qualities about them that make me as a human feel better about connecting with them.
Lysette discusses twelve archangels that she's interviewed (she's a professional angel medium) and asks them every day questions like what their favorite music is, how they feel about the state of the world, and what their favorite pasttimes are. While in any angel book on the market, you can find out that Archangel Michael is the patron of warriors and police officers, Lysette brings the angels to life and up to date. I found out that Michael loves football, rock-n-roll, buffalo wings and surfing. Archangel Sandalphon digs jazz and was the inspiration for the god Cupid. Yes, Azrael, the angel of Death, loves chocolate...and classic movies and popcorn.
Lysette was even brazen enough to ask them what their ideal date was and there was not a time when I wasn't laughing at the angels' responses. Finally, for the first time in forty years of searching, the angels feel real to me.
Another feature of this book is a review of each angel's mansion and a write-up that discusses what point in your life each angel will appear. Another first for me, I feel that Chantel wrote the book for me, that she knew me and understood what it's really like wanting to live a spiritual life in a mundane world.
There is some material that really goes against the grain of what New Age has been saying all these years, especially if you've followed things like "The Secret." Amidst the humor, Lysette also offers some new images of Heaven, discusses the purpose of life as taught by Archangel Gabriel, and explores the philosophy of fate vs. free will. Her writing doesn't come off preachy, but her presentation definitely gives one a moment for pause.
Still, even if you don't agree with the philosophical part of the book, you will love reading the angel interviews. Lysette is definitely a fresh new voice in New Age...and it's about time we got one.
Aside from the book, I went hunting for Lysette to see if there was any information on the internet about upcoming stuff and signings. This woman is everywhere on the net! I wrote her a few months ago and got a letter back from her that was genuine and heartfelt. And her humor knows no bounds, my god is she sassy...and I love it! She didn't come off like some glassy-eyed spiritual guru that sits on pillows in robes to quietly discuss the evolution the universe. Baptize By Blazing Fire: Divine Expose of Heaven and Hell ReviewI've applied some of the strategies the Lord Jesus showed in the book and I've been able to overcome temptations of sins and difficult personal situations at home, work and church much more effectively. Spiritual power truly becomes much stronger when I pray kneeling down with both hands raised up and pouring my heart out in a loud voice of crying out. Yes. This requires concentration of the will, determination and strength but if you just take the first step and ask God to help you to pray in such a way even if you really don't feel like to God does help you if you persist.
I have only just begun to pray like this and have much more to learn but the reward is already amazing! You really have to experience it because I think we all need to. I particularly like to pray to have my heart filled with the fear of the Lord and His love because to me that really is the only way to not sin and work my salvation in trembling and fear. The torment of hell described in the book is so horrifying that it's been very helpful in giving up (and be free from the sufferings of) all the worldly pleasures and staying away from backsliding. The reward of heaven mentioned is so good that it gives me a great joy to press on to seek His kingdom and its righteousness.Baptize By Blazing Fire: Divine Expose of Heaven and Hell Overview

We Are Their Heaven: Why the Dead Never Leave Us Review"Medium" is a great television show...but this book is the reality. No hollywood effects or twists here, this is the life of a real deal woman with an extraordinary ability.
Allison DuBois tells of her gift in such a matter-of-fact way you can't help but be fascinated...her writing reads like someone's journal or diary, just personal recollections in no particular order...a stream of remembrances, much like her first book "Don't Kiss Them Good-bye". She also expresses an uncommon belief that it is a natural gift and not necessarily something that can be learned, so there are no "do this exercise and you too can be a psychic" promises.
Also refreshing in her writing approach is the audience she seems to be writing for...Mrs. DuBois takes a particular interest in young mediums and beginning mediums, shows a great concern for them and seems to write from a "been there, done that, learn from my mistakes and the mistakes of others" mindset...this motherly approach is appreciated and quite endearing.
Her concern for her clients and their well-being is paramount to her and that comes through as well. She peppers the text with personal accounts from her clients', sharing their stories and experiences with her. Personal stories of loved ones lost are explored repeatedly through the chapters...these stories are sometimes enlightening, sometimes saddening, sometimes inspiring, sometimes reassuring and other times painful...they are all difficult to read, you feel so much pain for her clients, I can't help but wonder how she copes with helping people with their pain so much on a regular basis.
Another thing I really like about her is that she doesn't get too detailed in regards to her clients and doesn't get wrapped up in trying to "prove" herself and her abilities. She is often criticized for not giving too many specifics in her books in an effort to "prove her abilities" and "legitimize her work", however these same critics would not expect the same from Pastors or Ministers who counsel the grieving, or anyone else who claims to have a connection and relationship with the Divine. So, it's okay for a Baptist Preacher to say that they speak to God and God speaks to them, but it's not okay for Allison and other Mediums to say they've spoken with loved ones from the other side? Pastors and Ministers should not have to "prove" themselves by breaching client confidentiality and neither should reputable Mediums and Psychics like Allison. Her work ethic is simple proof (in my mind) that she respects her clients' privacy and genuinely cares about them, her credentials and history should be all the "proof" you need of her "legitimacy". Science can only prove so much anyway...there comes a time when you simply choose to have faith and believe in the unbelievable or question and refuse that which you cannot see under a microscope.
Emotional, fascinating, and easy to read.

Fast Lane to Heaven: Celestial Encounters that Changed My Life ReviewHaving read dozens of accounts of near-death experiences, I would have to rate Ned Dougherty's account as one of the two or three best, very possibly THE best. It is very well written and keeps the reader captivated and wondering what comes next.As the owner of two prosperous night clubs, Dougherty was leading a very hedonistic life, striving to be "one with his toys." He was a playboy who had strayed far from the spiritual path on which his Catholic school had tried to direct him toward. After becoming involved in an altercation at his New York nightclub, Dougherty had a near-death experience, which involved nearly every one of the characteristics associated with the NDE. He was met on the "Other Side" by an old friend, who had been killed in Vietnam, then accompanied "into the light," where he encountered other deceased friends and relatives and had a life review. "While in the presence of God's light, many revelations were conveyed to me," he writes. "As God was bestowing a radiant energy upon me, I recognized that the energy contained information about universal laws, revelations that were part of God's plan for the universe."Several chapters are devoted to these revelations, but Doughtery's own awakening is what kept me glued to the book. He comes across as very credible in explaining why there is no way that his NDE can, as the pseudo-skeptics claim, be written off as nothing more than an hallucination or dream. It so impacted him that he gave up his nightclubs as well as alcohol to pursue a life of helping others. The book meets my "4-I" test -- interesting, informative, intriguing, and inspiring. Flight to Heaven: A Plane Crash...A Lone Survivor...A Journey to Heaven--and Back ReviewIn "Flight To Heaven", Captain Dale Black has put to paper one of the most incredible stories of survival, recovery and faith that you will ever read, and that's before he even tells you about heaven.
Being a skeptical person, I have generally held a cynical view of claims people have made about going to heaven temporarily and returning back to earth. However, after having the pleasure of meeting Dale briefly and then reading his book, I have no doubt that his story is true. The man is the definition of genuine, and to me the most striking part of his story is that he waited 40 years to tell anyone about it. While some people have attempted to cash in or commercialize their out-of-body experiences, Dale kept his a secret from everyone except his grandfather for four decades. Imagine having experienced Heaven and not telling anyone about it! But this particular aspect of the story made me truly believe.
As far as Dale's descriptions of heaven, they are truly breathtaking. I won't try to do them justice here or recap them, but rest assured that you will be mesmerized and inspired by his experience with the afterlife. It's hard to know what to say after reading it; but you will come away with a sense of awe and wonder, and longing to hear more about it.
The way this book is written is phenomenal considering the subject matter; and it is definitely very difficult to put down. The ending to the story is incredible, and I won't give it away here. But you will come away with amazement at Dale's life and story, and also at his faith and God's faithfulness to him. He's an incredible person with an incredible story. J. D. Judy Franklin covers so much in this book. I wish I had it when I first was saved. There is a lot of foundational information. Also, I think every believer should experience heaven. The day after I read the book I started applying it to my life. I had an amazing encounter with the Father. I was able to share with my six year old daughter. She was able to enter into heaven too. I am so excited for my family. It is much easier to bring heaven to earth if you can experience heaven. The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven: A Remarkable Account of Miracles, Angels, and Life beyond This World ReviewIn November 2004, just one month before our son unexpectedly left for heaven, the author, Kevin Malarkey and his son, Alex (age 6) were in a serious accident. I remember reading the CaringBridge updates during our dark days . . . and theirs. I lost track after awhile, until I read that this book was coming out and those memories rushed back. In reading this book, I wonder . . . did my son and little Alex Malarkey cross paths in heaven?!?!?!
The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven is an amazing, true story. Kevin is told by a church member who offers to drive him to the hospital that it looked very bad, and that he did not think Alex had made it and probably had gone to heaven. However, after two months Alex woke up from a coma. The details he could tell about the accident, could not be made up, from what people were wearing, procedures that were done and a man praying over him. He remembered seeing five angels carry his father, and later seeing him put on a flat board and cutting off his clothes. The angels told him his daddy would be okay. Little by little Alex shares stories of heaven, about the music, talking with Jesus and continued sightings of angels.
I so appreciated the honesty of Kevin. Having spent many weeks in ICU with our daughter who has now had three open heart surgeries and having buried two children . . . it's not easy, even for the Christian who knows Scripture and knows God is there. There is spiritual warfare and great weariness. Kevin shared how their marriage took a battering and was "stretched to the breaking point." It gripped my heart to read with having-been-there-understanding, as their pastor friend also shared in the book:
" . . . Kevin and Beth greatly struggled in their marriage. Many times I came to the house to speak with them, counsel them, and pray with them. Those were dark days . . .
. . . It is an absolute miracle, an absolute proof there is a God in Heaven, that their marriage survived and that they are together today. Without God, there is no possible way their marriage would have survived."
Alex is a quadriplegic who has made amazing progress. He was also the first child to receive the "Christopher Reeve Surgery", allowing him to breathe without a ventilator. Their van license plate reads, "Wil Walk". They have hope that is undeniably sustained through their faith in Jesus.
This is an easy reading book, that will keep your attention and in awe. I highly recommend The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven.
