Everything Happens for a Reason: Finding the True Meaning of the Events in Our Lives ReviewI recently purchased Mira's Kirshenbaum's new book "Everything Happens For A reason" and I found this book to be very inspiration and most beneficial. As a woman that has had much adversity in my life over these past few years, the author encouraged, that even through the worst of times, growth and peacefulness will emerge if we are open to trust in ourselves and the fact that everything does happen for a reason. As a mother that lost her only child 4 years ago to leukemia at the age of 10, I could not believe at the time, that any positives could ever come from one of the most devastating experience any parent could ever imagine. The truth is...they have....through my grief work I have grown in ways I never would have ever explored, had I not going through this experience I have had to endure. This book brought me a peacefullness in knowing that the twist and turns in our lifetime do have reason, that they help us to find true authenticity of self and to help direct us back on course to find the true meaning of our life here on this earth. The author knows first hand about adversity losing many loved ones of her own during the holcaust. Through her sharing in this book of her first hand experience with adversity in her own life, I felt that she truly could relate and understand my struggles as well. For anyone that has gone through a deep loss, whether it be a death of a loved one, illness or divorce this book is a wonderful resource to assit you with your healing. I highly recommend this book!

If Life Is a Game, These Are the Rules ReviewFor all of you fans of the book, "Chicken Soup for the Soul", there is a new book out there that unveils the ten greatest rules about living life as a human being. In fact, the forward is written by Jack Canfield ( of 'Chicken Soup' fame) and has an interesting story. You see, the first version of Chicken Soup had a list called "The Ten Rules for Being Human" signed by 'anonymous'. Turns out, Dr. Cherie Carter-Scott was the author of those Ten Rules and, with a little encouragement, she's put together this fabulous little book to help us reprogram the gray matter in our skulls.
The book is laid out in an extremely easy to read format and divided into Ten Chapters, or Rules, if you will. In these 133 pages, are such eye opening revelations, such as: Chapter # 3 There Are No Mistakes Only Lessons and Chapter # 4 A Lesson is Repeated Until Learned. These two chapters alone are worth the price of admission! Time and again, you may have witnessed a friend, or even yourself repeating a situation in life, over and over. Whether it's always going out with the same type of people, trusting the wrong people, or simply making the most difficult choices, these are symptoms of not understanding that life will always present you with the same type of situations, until you have learned to master them. It's not bad luck, but probably unwise decision making that gives us the same outcome. Until a person makes a 'conscious' decision to adjust their cycle of thinking, and break out of the pattern, life will always seem to dole out the same rewards.
Another great chapter is #9: "All Your Answers Lie Inside of You". Sometimes we know what's best for us and we still decide to go against it. What you need, what you seek and who you are is embedded within you. This book is not about games, it's about living life to the fullest and achieving the next level of consciousness. Marian Jordan really brings to light how we as women have "lists" we feel we must meet by a certain time or in a specific manner. She uses Biblical truths to illustrate how we can throw our list away and truly follow the list God has planned for us and the subsequent blessings that come from following God's list rather than our own.
Several times throughout the book I was met with striking similarities to my life - the writing and subject matter is so honest and genuine.
Ms. Jordan opens up about her own heartbreak and disappointment that comes with feeling like a failure if you do not have the "perfect" life you imagined yourself having by a certain age.
As a single woman, it was nice to hear another single woman say "It's okay to be single" and being able to back it up with Scripture rather than have a women who has been married 25 years say, "Oh, relish your years as a single woman! But when are you going to get married?"
This book would be great for high school and college aged women who need a reminder of our infinite worth in God's eyes rather than what we are "supposed" to do with our lives according to others.

Why Your Life Sucks ReviewWhen I first saw this book, I was a little turned off by the title. It implied that my life sucked--and it didn't! However, I was too curious not to look. I'm glad I did.
We all have areas in our life that "suck". They are the uninvestigated thoughts and assumptions we have made that are a part of our reality. These, in turn, affect our decisions and perspectives. As a result, we often sell out, self-sabotage, and put up with things that suck our energy. It's these "little foxes that spoil the vine", to borrow from the Bible, that often eat at our enjoyment of life and its blessings.
I'm glad that the publishers of this book, The Jodere Group, were brave enough to allow for the title. "Suck" is an oft-used word in American culture, but it has the stigma of being crude slang. Yet, Cohen maintains that there are many aspects of life (including "energy vampires") that can literally suck the vitality right out of us--leaving us feeling drained, tired, anxious, depressed, angry, cheated and empty.
It took me awhile to get through this book because there are so many wise nuggets to absorb. I had my highlighter out, and soon realized this is a book that is not to be consumed quickly. Don't get me wrong: it's not difficult reading. Cohen writes in a friendly, conversational style--as if he's sitting in the living room with you. He uses personal stories, examples of well-known people, and quotes from others. (And he's also hilarious!) But what makes it a book to read slowly is that it contains such practical wisdom and advice for every area of life: relationships, money, vocation/work, spirituality, creativity, personal empowerment, sex, and so on.
Why Your Life Sucks is divided into 10 Chapters or reasons why your life may suck. Each Chapter/Reason then has sub-sections that cover the areas of how your life sucks and what you can do about it.
For example, Reason 1 that your life sucks is that You give your power away. The how of giving your power away is:
You put people on a pedestal.
You imitate instead of create.
You don't listen to your intuition.
You let others choose for you.
You think your destiny depends on something outside of you.
He then shares ways to plug up the proverbial leaks in your bucket, so you're not sucked dry. Here are a few gems I highlighted just in Chapter 1:
Physical death is mandatory, but spiritual death is optional.
If you don't use your mind, someone else will.
Drop what you've been taught so you can remember what you know.
Your true strength resides in holding your power in the midst of those who have abdicated theirs.
In the long run, you are the one who will have to live with your decisions, so make sure they represent your true desires.
Here are the other 9 reasons that your life may suck:
Reason 2: You expect it to suck
Reason 3: You get fooled by appearances
Reason 4: You waste your energy on things that suck
Reason 5: You keep trying to prove yourself
Reason 6: You say yes when you mean no
Reason 7: You think you have to do it all yourself
Reason 8: You try to fix other people
Reason 9: You starve your soul
Reason 10: You forgot to enjoy the ride
Many self-help offer little advice on how to navigate out of the murky waters of discontent; they just tell you what you already know--being big on what, but not how. This book, however, gives practical advice and real-life stories to help you plug up that leaky bucket that's been draining you of your life, your passion, and your energy.

David Bennett has journeyed into the Light and returned with messages of hope for all of us: There is life after death. The power of eternity forms and informs our earthly existence. The worst of diseases can be healed. Learning to be open hearted and loving is a life long journey of joy.
I knew most of Bennett's story before I read the book. I found it as enthralling as it was the first time I heard it. My favorite part is about the scent of roses from a holy relic, something I would discount if anyone else told me. This book erases the line between possible and impossible. It gives the reader's faith a booster shot. I highly recommend Voyage of Purpose as an antidote to the doom and gloom of current events. I'm giving it as a gift to my entire list of people for Yule so they can understand miracles still happen.
