Coming Out Spiritually: The Next Step ReviewThis book is easy to read and yet full of precise scholarly prose. A must-read for those of the LGBT community who are spiritual or are struggling with spiritual issues.
As a bisexual woman, I found that this book included me instead of the trend of a lot of books on gay issues which cater specifically to the male community. I was very impressed with Christian's style and evocative language. Having met him recently at the SF Book Festival, I found that as a speaker, he is equally as eloquent and feels very strongly about his work in the LGBT community.
Anyone wondering about what religions really feel about homosexuality? Check out Appendix 1 which includes "snapshots" of many religions.
I recommend this book to anyone in the LGBT community or someone who has a loved one in the LGBT community and is wondering about spiritual issues.Coming Out Spiritually: The Next Step Overview

The "Owner's and Operator's Guide" is not limited to only a few key concepts. Literally each and every page offers new and relevant information that every woman can put into action and have fantastic relationships with the men in our lives.
I raced through this book in my first read, pausing only to laugh, because Mama truly does have a unique and hilarious way with words. And also to cry, when I was moved by a new realizations, such as when Mama talks about acknowledgement, as well as anger, and I could really see how that had been impacting my relationships.
This is a "guide" in the true sense of the word. Mama Gena provides very practical and expert viewpoints on communication and man training, but it does not stop there. She includes exercises and checklists throughout the book which are enormously empowering. By putting these fundamentals into action, I believe that a great relationship, is now not only possible, but inevitable. As a matter of fact, I have not seen the fantastic insights in Sacred Sex ANYWHERE else, and I've read plenty of books on the subject. If someone actually took the time to read the book in its entirety, they would find that the focus of Dr. Gardner's argument is that for true Oneness to occur inside the bedroom, it MUST occur outside the bedroom first. Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts : Using the Power of Pleasure to Have Your Way with the World ReviewI sat there, looking at the cover, being annoyed by the title and thought, "Oh brother.... this woman ought to get a life, I mean GIVE ME A BREAK!" and then I started reading.
And nodding, and laughing and even taking some notes.
This is NOT highly intellectual. It may not be 100% new material. What it does do is package its message in a way that is workable, applicable, engaging and enjoyable to read.
I found myself mildly annoyed in certain paragraphs though it certainly was not enough for me to set aside all the goodness just because of that.

Called to Love: Approaching John Paul II's Theology of the Body ReviewI've read other works on John Paul II's theology of the body before, but what set apart "Called to Love" for me was the authors' interweaving of the pope's other literature, as well -- specifically, his poetry and plays. I must say I came away with an even greater appreciation for the late pope and his committment to marriage, families and upholding the dignity of the human person. Clearly, he was steeped in this love.
I think "Called to Love" achieves a nice balance between giving the layman a thorough -- but accessible -- introduction to JPII's teachings on love and human sexuality, and providing a "where do we go from here" approach for those already familiar with theology of the body and want to bring that message of faith-filled love to society.
