Pathways to His Presence: A Daily Devotional ReviewMy wife and I are always looking for a good daily devotional but they are hard to find. And very good couple devotionals are even harder to find. We are still finishing up a devotional book for this year. But I think we found one, this book, "Pathways To His Presence", for 2007.
There are many devotionals out there that are called "daily devotionals" but only have Monday through Friday or they lump together the weekend putting Saturday and Sunday together for one reading. Whatever happened to reading your Bible daily and spending time with God daily?
This devotional book is truly a daily devotional with 365 daily readings.
Even though my wife and I are not going to start using this devotional until January 1, 2007, I already read two devotionals from each month. The devotionals are easy to understand. Very down to earth. And Charles Stanley does a very good job showing what God has in store for us and also hits on the many different things we as christians face in our day to day life.
I like the layout of each daily devotional. You start with the scripture reading. Then you have the key verse. Then the main story and devotion. And you finish with a short prayer.
I also like that each month has a theme or as Charles Stanley calls them, Pathways:
January: Pathway To God's Will
February: Pathway To Forgiveness
March: Pathway TO Victory
April: Pathway To The Cross
May: Pathway To Prayer
June: Pathway To Faith
July: Pathway To Freedom
August: Pathway To Peace
September: Pathway To Assurance
October: Pathway To Success
November: Pathway To Spiritual Maturity
DEcember: Pathway To The Futute
I would highly recommended this devotional either for yourself or as a couples devotional.Pathways to His Presence: A Daily Devotional Overview

Experiencing God Day-By-Day: A Devotional and Journal ReviewI highly recommend this daily devotional for every Christian, new or old in the faith. I have bought this every year for the past 4 years. It is a wonderful way to keep a diary and helpful for looking back on to see your growth in our Lord. Each day you start with a passage from the Scriptures and a commentay about it. I do not always agree with the commentaries, but they do make me think about what the Lord is telling me through His Word. I can, also, look back and see how the Lord has helped me through bad times and also, more importantly, see how he has blessed me through them and also through my good times. A Faith and Culture Devotional: Daily Readings on Art, Science, and Life ReviewI received this book about a week ago after I managed to make the cutoff for a group that had been asked to review it. I am so glad that I responded to the invitation! A Faith and Culture Devotional isn't just another devotional style reading; I found this out within the first few minutes of scanning through and browsing the book. I've read (and continue to read) devotional compilations as a regular part of my spiritual disciplines; these compilations, in my experience, have taken many different forms and styles. The work that has been completed by Kelly Monroe Kullberg and Lael Arrington with the Faith and Culture Devotional follows a very unique approach as they endeavor to help the reader "find God" in the everyday existence that is our spiritual journey through life.
Allow me to share a few specifics; the devotional is bundled in a collection of readings spanning fifteen weeks. The subject and context of the readings are gathered from art, science, life, history, and theology to name just a few, as the subtitle implies. As diverse as the topics and subject matter are, the contributing authors are equally so. The readings are short, probably taking no longer than 5 minutes for even the most deliberate of readers. At the end of each reading follow a few reflective discussion points that serve equally well for the individual or a group.
In conclusion, I would like to share a personal experience and one of the reasons I rate this devotional volume so high. As I mentioned, I am a "devotee" and advocate for devotional writings. I am also a husband and father who believes in regular "family" devotional exercises (Bible reading and discussion, as well as supplemental devotional readings). Currently living at home, are two sons (ages 17 and 13) who have been exposed to countless devotionals (ancient-classic to contemporary) and multiple versions and English translations of the Bible. It has been difficult for me to keep it "fresh" through the years...especially on those "groggy-eyed mornings." Because I was so personally stricken with the Faith and Culture Devotional and we had recently finished our latest devotional reading, I decided to share these contemporary writings with the family. The first morning's reading, A Christian Theory of Everything by Sam Storms, awakened more discussion in my family than anything I had shared over the past year. Sam Storm mentioned a theory from physics known as the string theory and immediately my tired-eyed son's attention was captured. He sat bolt upright and listened with interest to the remainder of the reading. Once the reading was completed, we shared in family conversation for the next 20-25 minutes talking about how God is glorified in every, and all, aspects of life. It was a good conversation and the first of many that I'm sure we will have as we make our way through these daily readings on art, science, and life.

God's Love Letters to You: A 40-Day Devotional Experience ReviewI am always on the hunt for new devotionals that might offer a fresh perspective on the Bible or maybe speak to this season of my life. I read another book by Larry Crab not too long ago which I enjoyed and had heard about his book "66 Love Letters". When I saw that he had written a devotional based on that book I thought it would be worth a read. And with a tag line "the goal? to lose our story in His" I thought I found the perfect book. Unfortunately this book fell quite short of that goal. In theory, you'd spend 40 days reading about God's great love for us as told through His word. But I guess trying to condense into 40 pages something that you couldn't capture in an entire book is really an insurmountable task even for the most gifted writers. Maybe my expectations were a little too high. Though I expect a devotional to be rooted in scripture. This book was not. I also expect that the writer would point you to places in the Scripture where you can dig a little deeper. this was also not the case with this book. I actually found nothing challenging or encouraging about reading through this. In fact, it was a big waste of time. I'm not sure I could even think of an audience that would benefit from reading this. Truly unfortunate. I think he should stick to writing books, not devotionals

It brought her peace especially after the death of her mother. It is a wonderful book for women.
