Serve to Lead®--Your Transformational 21st Century Leadership System Review
What we have in this substantial volume is a cohesive, comprehensive, and cost-effect system that will enable aspiring leaders to understand what Martin Luther King, Jr., meant when asserting that "everyone can be great, because everyone can serve...You don't have to have a college degree to serve, You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve...You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love." You also need what Strock offers in this book: an abundance of practical advice that will provide invaluable assistance as the reader proceeds through the four-week process which is central to Strock's "Serve to Lead" system. Throughout his lively and thought-provoking narrative, he anchors his insights in real-world situations and rigorously examines the major leadership styles and those who best exemplify them.
He poses identifies and then explains "Ten Principles of Twenty-First Century Leadership" (Pages 26-64) that serve collectively as the ideological foundation of the "Serve to Lead" system. Strock also realizes the truth of what Thomas Edison once observed, "Vision without execution is hallucination." Therefore, most of his attention throughout the book is focused on explaining HOW to apply those principles in effective service to others.
Early in the book, Strock poses four questions that only each reader can answer. They are:
"Who are you serving?"
COMMENT: It is impossible to lead others effectively unless and until we are both willing and able to assume leadership of our own lives. Consider these lines from a poem that helped Nelson Mandela to survive more than years of solitary confinement in prison, William Ernest Henley's Invictus:
"I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul."
"How can you serve best?"
COMMENT: Just as we cannot be everywhere at once, we cannot serve everyone everywhere all the time. Strock urges his reader to select those relationships and those situations in which we can be of greatest service to those in greatest need.
"Are you making a unique contribution?"
COMMENT: This is best considered in combination with the second (previous) question but there are subtle differences, notably the reference to "unique." Each of us has special gifts, special talents, etc. If I understand Strock on this point (and I may not), he is stressing the importance of making a difference in a way that is unique to us. In a workplace, for example, some people have a special talent for formulating and then expressing constructive criticism; others have a "sixth sense" for recognizing when someone needs encouragement; still others have an uncanny ability to focus on a problems causes rather than on its symptoms.
"Are you getting better every day?"
COMMENT: I interpret this to have two key points: Increase the value of assistance to each individual served, and, increase the number of those who are served. Can I become a better listener? Can I ask better questions? Can I become more alert to the "messages" that tone-of-voice and body language send?
Before concluding this brief commentary, I want to discuss the four-week program that Strock recommends, one that will help aspiring servant leaders to get their values in alignment with their life experiences.
Weeks One and Two: Audit allocation of resources (especially hours and dollars) to serving others
Week Three: Conduct a rigorous evaluation of most important relationships in all domains (i.e. home, at work, in the community) to determine how each can be strengthened
Week Four: Move to the next level by reviewing and evaluating core values, ongoing thought patterns, routines, and "habitual ways in which you process and respond to your life as you experience it."
The details of HOW to accomplish these worthy objectives are best revealed in context but I do not hesitate to suggest that James Strock is both an idealistic and a pragmatist, one who is determined to do all he can to help each reader to become an increasingly more effective leader through high-impact service to others.Serve to Lead®--Your Transformational 21st Century Leadership System Overview

DailyOM: Inspirational Thoughts for a Happy, Healthy, and Fulfilling Day ReviewI received the book early, and am reading a short section before starting each day. Such a tiny bit of time invested, only 3 or 4 minutes, and I am uplifted and have something thought provoking to contemplate. Surprisingly deep without seeming so, instructional without sounding preachy, and profoundly inspiring, Madisyn Taylor truly provides an easy little boost to the development of each of us and ultimately to humanity. Everything Happens for a Reason: Finding the True Meaning of the Events in Our Lives ReviewI recently purchased Mira's Kirshenbaum's new book "Everything Happens For A reason" and I found this book to be very inspiration and most beneficial. As a woman that has had much adversity in my life over these past few years, the author encouraged, that even through the worst of times, growth and peacefulness will emerge if we are open to trust in ourselves and the fact that everything does happen for a reason. As a mother that lost her only child 4 years ago to leukemia at the age of 10, I could not believe at the time, that any positives could ever come from one of the most devastating experience any parent could ever imagine. The truth is...they have....through my grief work I have grown in ways I never would have ever explored, had I not going through this experience I have had to endure. This book brought me a peacefullness in knowing that the twist and turns in our lifetime do have reason, that they help us to find true authenticity of self and to help direct us back on course to find the true meaning of our life here on this earth. The author knows first hand about adversity losing many loved ones of her own during the holcaust. Through her sharing in this book of her first hand experience with adversity in her own life, I felt that she truly could relate and understand my struggles as well. For anyone that has gone through a deep loss, whether it be a death of a loved one, illness or divorce this book is a wonderful resource to assit you with your healing. I highly recommend this book!

The Ten Things to Do When Your Life Falls Apart: An Emotional and Spiritual Handbook ReviewI can safely say that this book jumped off the shelf in a bookstore precisely because my life is coming apart. Had I read the reviews first, I probably wouldn't have purchased it, but having read the book now, probably two or three times, I highly recommend this gentle, easy read which has a way of making the reader feel that he/she is not alone. You are encouraged to read the chapters as needed and not necessarily in simultaneous order. The ten things outlined are not rocket science, but they are so logical and comforting to read, whether you are experiencing job loss, death, or any other various tragedies that are mentioned, but not singled out or dwelled upon. I started with the chapter on Simplifying, clearly a common theme in today's news, but this one hits home in a precise, memorable way, which encouraged me to not just clean out once, but go back and get rid of more and more. As the author explains, you cannot hope to deal with the clutter around you even when you are feeling 100%, but when everything else is coming apart, it is essential to free up your surroundings.
The chapter on "Letting Go", again not a new concept, but written in a conversational way that makes sense when your life doesn't... says, "You can't begin to fly when you have concrete on your feet." Take it for what it's worth. If you think this is corny, so be it, but for me it is a great spiritual and uplifting go-to manual. My head is swimming, thus I need the gift this author handed me at this specific time in my life.... order, peace and hope. And, one last thing, a chapter on the great healing value of crying. I really enjoyed the quick read, quick lift quality.

If Life Is a Game, These Are the Rules ReviewFor all of you fans of the book, "Chicken Soup for the Soul", there is a new book out there that unveils the ten greatest rules about living life as a human being. In fact, the forward is written by Jack Canfield ( of 'Chicken Soup' fame) and has an interesting story. You see, the first version of Chicken Soup had a list called "The Ten Rules for Being Human" signed by 'anonymous'. Turns out, Dr. Cherie Carter-Scott was the author of those Ten Rules and, with a little encouragement, she's put together this fabulous little book to help us reprogram the gray matter in our skulls.
The book is laid out in an extremely easy to read format and divided into Ten Chapters, or Rules, if you will. In these 133 pages, are such eye opening revelations, such as: Chapter # 3 There Are No Mistakes Only Lessons and Chapter # 4 A Lesson is Repeated Until Learned. These two chapters alone are worth the price of admission! Time and again, you may have witnessed a friend, or even yourself repeating a situation in life, over and over. Whether it's always going out with the same type of people, trusting the wrong people, or simply making the most difficult choices, these are symptoms of not understanding that life will always present you with the same type of situations, until you have learned to master them. It's not bad luck, but probably unwise decision making that gives us the same outcome. Until a person makes a 'conscious' decision to adjust their cycle of thinking, and break out of the pattern, life will always seem to dole out the same rewards.
Another great chapter is #9: "All Your Answers Lie Inside of You". Sometimes we know what's best for us and we still decide to go against it. What you need, what you seek and who you are is embedded within you. This book is not about games, it's about living life to the fullest and achieving the next level of consciousness. An excellent gift for the soul searcher! If Life Is a Game, These Are the Rules Overview

How to Argue & Win Every Time: At Home, At Work, In Court, Everywhere, Everyday ReviewWow! Alot of folks who have reviewed this book need a hug and a valium (a potent combination I might add).
Let me start by saying that the title of this book is a bit misleading, and intentionaly so. This book isn't about arguing as much as it's about communicating. Mr. Spence useds the word 'argument' in the context that everything we articulate- whether it's a desire to teach , punish, express wants or state an oppinion- is essentialy an argument.
The twist to this little tome is that effective arguing is not a act of selfishness but a labor of love. A good argument is one in which the greatest good is served.
I particularly found the chapter on arguing with kids quite useful. I tend to be quite authoritarian and rule oriented when it comes to child rearing and this little chapter taught me that kids will grow into responsible loving adults without being constantly hovered over and corraled into so called 'correct behavior'. This chapter is worth the price of the book alone.
I recommend this book to anyone who has ever asked for anything in his/her life. Well hell! I must be recommending this book to everyone. How to Argue & Win Every Time: At Home, At Work, In Court, Everywhere, Everyday Overview

In Pursuit of Purpose ReviewThis book is a major revelation. I have heard many people talk about purpose. But, no one has made the principle of purpose and destiny as simple as Dr. Myles Munroe has. He discussed the fact the God is the manufacturer of people and when He releases them from eternity into time, it is for a specific purpose. He brings to light that God had a special assignment for every individual that he creates and when he sends them to earth, there is a specific way that they are supposed to impact the earth while they are here. He compares humans to a product and discusses the fact that the manufacturer of a product has in mind when he creates the product, what he wants the product to do. Interestingly, he says when the product is not used for its intended purpose, it is being abnormally used, which is abuse. He also goes on to discuss how each product comes with a warranty and the warranty is good as long as the product is used for which the manufacturer created it. Basically, when we obey God and do what God sent us here to do, he always covers us and because we are under his warranty, we can always go back to him and be restored even if we get broken. This is a must read for every believer that really wants to understand why God created them.In Pursuit of Purpose Overview

Summer's Path (Expanded Edition) ReviewSummer's Path is a book that masterfully achieves a rich and paradigm shifting integration of the sacred and the mundane. The story opens with Don, dying of pancreatic cancer at far too young, uninsured and scrimping on proper treatment in a valiant effort to save his wife the lone burden of lifelong debt. However, the arrival, through dreams at first, of an unexpected spiritual ally (Robert), transforms what first appears to be a desperate death sentence into an adventure of personal reclamation and catalytic transformation.
Blum takes the reader on a journey where even something as seemingly menacing as cancer becomes instead a teacher - an opportunity for healing, liberation, and a deeper understanding of life's ultimate mysteries. Don, his wife, and I would say even Robert in the end, are all catapulted into experiences and realizations that bring them into an ever deepening awareness of the profound intelligence behind all of life's dramas.
Expect to be both uplifted and challenged by this book. You will grow in unexpected ways as you follow this story that "erases the line between life and death." Part of Blum's gift is his ability to articulate the possibilities of spiritual resurrection without glossing over the simultaneous realities of grief, loss, and the painful personal surrenders sometimes necessary to gather the pearls of spiritual growth. Because of this, Summer's Path is a treasure of spiritual authenticity, a story of mystical human-ness that speaks to the trials and insights of every human journey.Summer's Path (Expanded Edition) Overview

The Resiliency Advantage: Master Change, Thrive Under Pressure, and Bounce Back from Setbacks Review+++++
Self-rate yourself on a scale from 1 (meaning little agreement) to 5 (meaning strongly agree) on the following ten items:
(1) In a crisis or chaotic situation, I calm myself and focus on taking useful actions.
(2) I'm usually optimistic, seeing difficulties as temporary and believe things will eventually turn out well.
(3) I can tolerate high levels of uncertainty and ambiguity.
(4) I'm good at bouncing back from difficulties and quickly adapt to new developments.
(5) I'm self-confident and have a healthy concept of who I am.
(6) I prefer to work without a written job description since I'm more effective when I'm free to do what I think is best in each situation.
(7) I trust my intuition and "read" people well.
(8) I'm a good listener and have good empathy skills.
(9) I've been made stronger and better by difficult experiences.
(10) I've converted misfortune into good luck and even found benefits in bad experiences.
A low score of (under 25) means your resiliency skills are weak and you would greatly benefit from this amazing, easy-to-read, psychobabble-free book by Dr. Al Siebert, a clinical psychologist and Director of "The Resiliency Center". (`Resiliency' means (i) coping well with ongoing negative change (ii) sustaining good health and energy under constant pressure (iii) bouncing back from setbacks and adversities (iv) changing to a new way of living and working when an old way no longer works (v) and doing all this without acting in harmful ways.)
A middle score of (25 to 45) means your resiliency skills are adequate but probably can be greatly enhanced by using this book.
A high score of (over 45) means you have good resiliency skills and this book will validate many things you are doing right.
This book in a nutshell presents five resiliency "levels" or skills (level four is divided into 4 sub-levels while level 5 is divided into 3 sub-levels) so, in effect, the reader is presented with ten essential resiliency skills that Siebert has distilled from "the emerging new science of resiliency psychology." This book, besides other important things, shows you how to:
(1) Sustain strong, healthy energy in non-stop pressure and change
(2) Bounce back quickly from setbacks
(3) Gain strength from adversities
(4) Convert misfortune into good fortune
(5) Overcome tendencies to feel like a victim, and stay detached from victim reactions of others
(6) Overcome the three main resiliency barriers.
Who is this book written for? Siebert explains: "The resiliency guidelines in this book focus mainly on resiliency in the workplace, but they apply broadly to all aspects of life." (Actually, I think Siebert is being too restrictive in saying that these principles "focus mainly on resiliency in the workplace." Personally, I think these principles are essential to know so as to effectively play the game of life.)
What will this book NOT tell you? It "will not tell you what to do or how to act or think...Resilient people are those who decide that somehow, some way, they will do the very best they can to survive, cope, and make things turn out well." This book helps you develop your own unique way of being resilient by being both self-reliant and socially responsible.
As a physically disabled person, my personal favorite chapter was entitled "Mastering Extreme Resiliency Challenges." Included here are true stories from 9/11 survivors. I feel Siebert outdoes himself in this penultimate chapter.

Finally, this book has some key features. Important definitions, exercises, and other important and essential information are isolated from the main narrative as inserts so as to highlight key ideas. Each chapter is broken up into sections with anecdotes, examples, and true stories instead of having one long narrative. At the end of each chapter are insightful "Resiliency Development Activities" that help you utilize and think about the information from each chapter.
In conclusion, this is truly a helpful and unique book. Discover for yourself why this book was named the winner of the 2006 Independent Publisher Book Awards in the "Self Help" category at BookExpo America (the largest book publishing event in the United States) and why it was endorsed by the past president of the American Psychological Association!!
(first published 2005; preface; 13 chapters; main narrative 200 pages; notes; index; acknowledgements; about the author)

Reinventing Yourself: How to Become the Person You've Always Wanted to Be ReviewSteve Chandler's calming voice guides you through 100 ways to motivate yourself. While listening, grab a pen and paper and write down ideas which will change your life and help you literally reinvent yourself.
Throughout the tape, the "owner" and "victim" are compared. By the end of the tape you will realize which person lives within you.
Victims think power is beyond their control. Their core belief is that life is unfair. Owners are happy, not easily discouraged and say "I want," not "I should."
I felt that the lessons where extremely practical and bring awareness to issues we all deal with on a daily basis. If "thinking" is the "soul talking to itself," then I can see why we can motivate ourselves through "internal talk," or thinking the right positive thoughts.
Steven's method is to help us learn the words to say to ourselves. He believes victims are victims of their own defeated thinking. What they watch, read and listen to can make them happy or sad. You literally have to reprogram your mind.
Once you have done this and come to see the human spirit as a fire that needs to be lit daily, you can finally learn how to invite happiness into your life on a daily basis, no matter what the circumstances.

The Essential 55: An Award-Winning Educator's Rules For Discovering the Successful Student in Every Child ReviewRon Clark teaches school. He has 55 rules of "engagement" for anything from good manners (Don't take the largest piece of pie, Always say Thank-You, Make Eye Contact) to rules of responsibility and deportment (Enter the field trip building silently, Do not talk in the movies, unwrap your candy before the film to keep from disturbing others.)
These rules teach his students to be polite and attentive, to understand if they don't hand in assignments, there will be consequences (even if the assignment is just a little blue card they have to return to him the next day.) But Ron is no martinet--he has weird rules (No Doritos, just because...and a funny story to make the rule amusing.) His War of the Onions against a sadly jealous fellow teacher is both hysterically funny and touching.
Ron Clark shows the world that kids anywhere can learn to be well-brought up and polite, that manners and rules help them succeed. He makes the very important point that a teacher is an important influence since he or she is with those kids for more time during the day than the parents.
This book is fun to read and is a great story. It is also a MUST-READ for any school teacher who wants to excel with their students and give them something of tremendous value to carry them through the rest of their lives with honor and grace--good manners and good behavior.
Bravo, Ron Clark! The Essential 55: An Award-Winning Educator's Rules For Discovering the Successful Student in Every Child Overview

DailyOM: Learning to Live ReviewWhile most of the information in Taylor's book is "golden rule" common sense, it is the type of information that we easily forget when we become consumed by a daily grind or rut. Reminding ourselves of our worth, our uniqueness, our ability to inspire drowns in our need to raise family and pay bills. Taylor's book is the antidote. It does not preach, brag, or condescend. Instead, it is full of necessary, yet compassionate daily reminders that can make you soar above the ruts and realize the ease and joy that life can hold. Inspiration: Your Ultimate Calling ReviewI first encountered the words of Wayne Dyer 5 or so years ago on PBS. I liked what I heard. Though nothing he says is original, I did like the way he presented it.
The first book of his I read was "There's A Spiritual Solution to Every Problem", the book on which the first lecture I watch on PBS was based.
I was inspired by, and enjoyed that book. As I did the next two or three. But recently, and especially with this latest volume, he simply repackages his older books in a different form. Ironic for a book about inspiration.
I want to be clear that I have no intrinsic problem with some of the concepts he talks about. But this book, and his lectures, and overall attitude lately, as opposed to my first exposure to him, are becoming quite the turn off.
In this volume, there were somevery glaring examples of either contradiction, strict unfairness, and at times, ego...despite Dyer's commitment against the ego.
I also found it very repetative, but I realize he warns of that early on. However just because something is acknowledged, does not mean it should be accepted.
The following items bothered me the most, and I would be interested to learn if others readers agree with these bothersome items.
-The oft mentioned assumption that he is personally the reincarnated spirit of St. Francis of Asissi.
-He is not very supportive of his friends. To him it seems that to even be in the presence of an unhappy person insults him. His reason being that since life is perfect and nothing wrong EVER happens to us, being unhappy or scared of something is simply a low energy, and one thathe is unwilling to stand inthe presence of. He even mentions a story of a good friend of his who started to be worried about the leaness of his business. He had legitimate concerns about going under. Not thoughts of evil or suicide or anything, just some natural worry when the finances did not look good.
Dyer, in the book, tells us "just about the time I was no longer willing to be exposed to this sort of thing..." Meaning that in his perfect life, there are no accidents, and so, he did not want to be around his supposed friend, because being a little scared or worried is ungodlike. He ignores the fact that in order to help people, especially friends, you have to be in the midst of bad things sometimes. He often quotes Mother Teresa. Yet if shehad told all of those sick people to simply "think about what you were doing when you first became sick, and stop doing it!" she would not bethe saintwe recognize her as today.
-Secondly, multiple times in just about every chapter, he plugged one or more of his other books, books by colleagues, or books published by Hay House. It is allright to acknowledge your previous works, or those of others, but the frequency with which he does so in thisvolume is disingenuous at best. Product placement, at worst.
-I call one's attention to page 106 of the book. Dyer's "12 Step Program to Simplicity." Items 10 and 11.
Item 10 calls for us to "Eschew Debt" and to live within our means...not purchases or buying things we do not absolutley need, in order to live the life we agreed with God to havebefore we were born.
The very next item, number 11, instructs us to "forget about cash value." He proceeds, on the very same page, to tell us that we should not look at the dollar signs when we are "inspired" to do something like take a trip, eat a nice dinner out on the town, or be comfortable. How can one eschew debt, and yet ignore the dollar value of an item they are inspired to posess?
-Pages 110-113. The Ram Dass Story.
This is among the more insulting parts of the book. He tells the story of one ofhis mentors, and reproduces a letter he has posted on his (Dyer) own website. In it, Dyer tells of how gentle and wonderful Dass hasbeen, and how important this "dear friend" has been throughouthis life, especially since coming to live in Maui in the twilight of his life.
Then, Dyer has the audacity to solicit you and I for money to help buy Dass his own house! In Maui!
This book "eschewing" the ideaof possesions, money, and doubting that the universe will take care of everything you ever could want, is asking us to pay for his mentor's housing conditions, simply because Dyer thinks he is "a wonderful man".
How about this...Dyer isso fond of "giving something of yourself everyday..." how about cutting into your millions of dollars and cutting a check for your hero to own his own house? You can afford it, I cannot. Or if you cannot swallow that, cut him a check large enough to coverhis moving expenses out of Maui (one of the most expensive places on earth to live), and to a location far more affordable. If what is said about Dass is true, he should be happy anywhere he can find to live. They arrogance of a millionaire asking for donations to save his "mentor" who lives just down the street from him was nearly enough to get me to stop reading the book right there.
Furthermore, the entire business bore little relevence to the rest of the chapter, which was ostensibly about "Faith Banishes all doubt".
Unless you can sucker the general public into buying your guru a home in Maui.
-The name dropping throughout the book. He studied with, worked with, talked to, helped the luggage problems of...fill in the blank with celebrity X. The encounter with Renee Zellwegger outlined on pages 144-146 (complete with photo copy of a note she gave him) is the most glaring example of this.
-His mentioning more of the great things he did "in spirit", such as throwing away a mashed up burger he saw on the floor of a McDonald's, page 150 or so. I love how picking up a burger being trampled is heroic, but heneeds ourhelp in paying for his guru's home....
My point is made. There are other things, but honstly, I do not feel like looking for the page number, as I would have to skim the book again.
I am finding Dyer to be more annoying as time goes on. By his own advice about annoying people, I should send himthoughts of love. I would do so, in proportion to how much this book annoyed me, but I also have a day job.Inspiration: Your Ultimate Calling Overview

Son Rise: The Miracle Continues ReviewAs you read all the reviews of this book here, I suggest you take a moment to mentally classify the reviewers into two categories: (1) parents who decided after reading this book to adopt the Son-Rise method for their autistic children, and (2) everybody else.
You'll notice a clear difference - the parents are all UNANIMOUS in their approval of this book and the program, while the rest offer a mixed bag - some approval, sure, but a lot of criticism, cynicism, condescension, outright ridicule, and some cheap shots. All are personal viewpoints, and therefore equally valid perspectives. But if you're reading this book not as a literary exercise, but in search of an effective way to help your child, that difference should send you a crystal-clear message.
My personal viewpoint: I picked up this book almost three years ago (6 months after having had my son diagnosed with autism), and I finished it in one sitting (ending well past midnight). Within a day or two my wife and I called the Institute, signed up for their training program and haven't looked back since. Our son, who was totally non-verbal at age 3, now has a large & growing vocabulary, speaks in 5-10 word sentences, and is interacting socially, learning freely and living joyfully. And along the way, it has also transformed our family's experience of life. Not that I was the New Age type - I'm an engineer, the skeptical, numbers-guy kind. Thank goodness I could recognize the genuine article when I see it. I don't care if Son-Rise doesn't quote the statistics some people demand - my son is the only statistic I need.
The difference between the perspectives of a player on the field and a spectator in the stands can be seen in the following quotes from Rivkah McCaby's review:
*"Imitation Therapy" - if this is a reference to the practice of `joining', it reflects a very shallow understanding of this foundational pillar of the Son-Rise method.
*"Their institute is the temple of a personality cult": Oh, come on! Somebody who has spent a week there wouldn't be saying this.
*"This isn't going to be very helpful to most 21st century families looking for help with an autistic child ...", "... most parents today don't have the time and money the Kaufmans had, but they do have the resources of public funding, Medicaid, and established programs ...", "... but love is not the reason this therapy works...": Maybe these statements are true and maybe they aren't, but who would know better than someone running a Son-Rise program for their child?Son Rise: The Miracle Continues Overview

A Daily Dose of Sanity: A Five-Minute Soul Recharge for Every Day of the Year Review

Once again, Alan Cohen has created a book which brings Godliness into the here and now with lessons of profound loving. I deeply appreciate his ability to provide a spiritual perspective on the mundane, thereby expanding my consciousness and connection with Spirit.

My copy has joined "A Deep Breath of Life" (my favorite book, EVER) on my nightstand where it will also serve as a daily tool of inspiration.

A Deep Breath of Life: Daily Inspiration for Heart-Centered Living ReviewThis delightful book will definitely lift you up when you need an inspirational message. Sometimes, I read daily devotions or other motivational books and eventually stop reading them -- This book is not like that! It "hits the spot" when I need an instant mood change or something to pick me up out of the doldrums...or just when I need a different perspective at the end of a day. Sometimes, I read several entries at a time. I often share pertinent insights from this book with friends, and I am convinced that some of the gems of wisdom from this book are single-handedly pulling one of my friends out of a mid-life crisis. This author is truly blessed with the ability to touch the common with the divine. This book touches people - let it touch you!A Deep Breath of Life: Daily Inspiration for Heart-Centered Living Overview

The Ultimate Life (The Ultimate Series #2) ReviewIf you read The Ultimate Gift, don't waste your time reading The Ultimate Life. I hate to start a review with a negative statement like that, but The Ultimate Life was such a disappointment after reading the first book (and watching the movie). Stovall knew he had a good thing in The Ultimate Gift, so he went back and tried to dip the proverbial bucket in the well - this time it came up dry. Oh, and by the way, this isn't a sequel to the first BOOK...it's a sequel to the movie, so if you read The Ultimate Gift but didn't see the movie, Stovall has changed some characters in this book to correlate to the movie.
In The Ultimate Life, young Jason Stevens is now on trial with his family suing for the billions that Red Stevens bequeathed to young Jason through his will in The Ultimate Gift. The various trials that Jason had to endure to learn life's most valuable lessons, he now has to reiterate and rehash to demonstrate that he, indeed, learned those lessons to the satisfaction of Judge Davis. The story is told through the eyes of Judge Davis and the attempt is made to add suspense and intrigue into the most obvious, least surprising story ever written. Young Jason wins the case, keeps the money, makes a magnanimous gesture to his "family" so they are able to keep their millions and gets married to his wonderful fiancé Alexia (again, from the movie, not the first book) and rides off into the sunset - okay, they don't ride off into the sunset - I guess that was the only thing too cheesy for Stovall in this book. The Ultimate Life (The Ultimate Series #2) Overview

Touched by the Extraordinary ReviewTouched by the Extraordinary by Susan Barbara Apollon is a tender book which give many examples of various ways people experience things beyond normal physical capabilities, offering proof that we are more than our bodies and there is far more to life than meets the eye or other senses. The author calls these extraordinary events "delicious and mystifying and difficult-to-label-and-understand." She seeks to validify the experiences sited, to enlighten, and to challenge your belief about what is real. She discusses intuition, NDE's, second sight, sixth sense, dreams, visions, ESP, psychic energy, automatic writing and many other amazing phenomenon. She relates numerous fascinating occurrences of the people she interviewed and sheds light on their meaning, whether coincidence or synchronicity orchestrated by unseen helpers. The book is really interesting and very meaningful for today's worldTouched by the Extraordinary Overview
