Uplift: Secrets from the Sisterhood of Breast Cancer Survivors ReviewIf you have just been diagnosed with breast cancer, get this book. It has hundreds of tips and suggestions from those who have been through it. These are the things that your doctors can't tell you about, because few of them have actually experienced it. Author Barbara Delinsky invited breast cancer survivors to share their best tips and stories. Some of them are quite funny, but you'd have to be "one of the sisterhood" to understand. I first checked it out from the library, but decided I had to have my own copy. I will refer to it frequently during this next year, when I am under treatment for early-stage BC.Uplift: Secrets from the Sisterhood of Breast Cancer Survivors Overview

I Had Brain Surgery, What's Your Excuse ReviewI cried quietly. I laughed aloud. My head hurt. My heart ached. And I've had trouble putting down this nuanced and splendidly illustrated memoir chronicling Suzy Becker's recognition that her seizure-like "stress episodes" were caused by a tumor that required brain surgery, and her journey through preparation, surgery and recovery. An award-winning best selling author-illustrator, Becker was staggered to discover that her language skills had been "stolen" by the surgery. This innovative narrative of her quest for recovery is enriched with her cartoons, graphics and commentary revealing a complex array of responses. Her humor lets the reader look at her ordeal with some of the empathy she craved during the recovery; and her honesty lets us see the pain and courage of her fight to regain her self. I admire the boldness and beauty of this reflection, the penning of which she characterizes as her recovery.I Had Brain Surgery, What's Your Excuse Overview

You're Not Old Until You're Ninety: Best to Be Prepared, However ReviewThis book was like sitting in the garden and having tea with a fascinating grandmother who has wonderful experience to share. Rebecca tells a story, not about denying or ignoring old age, but of a gentle persistant inner journey that leaves me excited about growing older and discovering all the possibilities that lie within. It's a book about living - at any age. She also provides an excellent suggested reading list, which I have availed myself of. I've sent copies of the book to my loved ones, hoping they too would not only enjoy the story, but also realize the gift of wise experiences. You're Not Old Until You're Ninety: Best to Be Prepared, However Overview
