Experiencing The Holy Spirit ReviewWhile Murray's book is only around 130 pages, there is plenty of spiritual insights for anyone interested in the Holy Spirit.
Among the important points covered in the book include:
1. God comes to those who wait on Him.
2. Those who wait on the Lord will see Him work in far greater ways than they can imagine.
3. God will use despair to break us of our self-life and self-confidence. The world's influence on us is so strong that we often have to withdraw from it.
4. God wants to prepare His people for a life of victory.
5. Dying to self and humbling ourselves before the Lord will result in the blessing of the Holy Spirit.
6. We must admit our utter impotence and helplessness to experience the fullness of the Holy Spirit in our own strength.
7. Use the blessings God gives you to benefit others.
8. During times of discouragement, rest in silence before God and hold fast to your integrity.
9. God holds Himself responsible for your future and will provide for us as we walk in the fullness of His Spirit.Read, enjoy, and be challenged to let the Holy Spirit get more of you! Highly recommended.

Surprised by the Power of the Spirit ReviewI read this book back in 1994 just after my wife and I had been baptized in the Holy Spirit. Our personal experience of the Holy Spirit had made believers out of us; a pesky quarter-sized "mosaic" verruca that my wife had tried to rid herself of for years withered away two weeks after she had received prayer to receive the fullness of the Spirit. I experienced an unusual number of opportunities in the following days to give some kind of Christian witness or other. So we were ready to learn more.
And learn we did! Jack Deere's book answered intellectually what we already know was true experientially. Deere begins with his personal journey from his professorship at Dallas Theological Seminary, a bastion of cessationism, through some rather amazing experiences, to understanding that the baptism and filling of the Holy Spirit are still for today. In the latter part of his work, he shifts his approach and turns to the intellectual issues. He forcefully demolishes the cessationist position of John MacArthur, one of the leading proponents of that view, and answers in a very satisfactory way the objections raised by its advocates. (By the way, the reader should not ignore the footnotes/endnotes, especially in the later chapters of the book. Some of Deere's most powerful insights are found in the fine print.)
In my opinion, the most valuable quality of Surprised by the Power of the Spirit is the void that it fills within charismatic/pentecostal literature. For far too long, charismatics and pentecostals have been treated by other traditions within Christianity with a degree of supercilious diffidence. Indeed, many have emphasized emotionalism at the expense of sound biblical exegesis. Jack Deere brings to the charismatic/pentecostal camp a brilliant, penetrating mind that will be of great value in presenting a scholarly, intellectual apologetic for the continued existence and operation of the gifts of the Spirit.Surprised by the Power of the Spirit Overview

Complete Works of E. M. Bounds on Prayer, The: Experience the Wonders of God through Prayer ReviewThe Complete Works of E. M. Bounds on Prayer is one of those rare life-changing books you could ever read. For almost a century, the outstanding works by this Prophet of Prayer have long inspired pastors, teachers, evangelists and christians all over the world to approach the Throne of Grace with boldness. E.M.Bounds (1835-1913), a Methodist minister and Civil War chaplain, who devoted the last 17 years of his life to intense intercession and to penning his most perennially popular works on prayer, once said, "God shapes the world by prayer. Prayers are deathless. The lips that uttered them may be closed in death, the heart that felt them may have ceased to beat, but the prayers live before God, and God's heart is set on them and prayers outlive the lives of those who uttered them; they outlive a generation, outlive an age, outlive a world."
The book is actually a compilation of his eight books covering every aspect on the singular theme "Prayer", namely,
1. Necessity of Prayer
2. The Essentials of Prayer
3. The Possibilities of Prayer
4. The Reality of Prayer
5. The Purpose in Prayer
6. The Weapon of Prayer
7. Power Through Prayer
8. Prayer and Praying Men
All the books are a gold mine for christians. This edition is definitely better than other collection of his works by the name "E M Bounds: The Classic Collection on Prayer" available earlier as it employs a better version of modern text and is unedited hence, remaining faithful to original writings of E.M. Bounds. The only drawback I could observe is that the Bible verse references of most of the verses quoted from the scriptures are not mentioned though name of the book and chapters are mentioned at many places. So, one has to search them in Bible on their own or using concordance. That's why I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5. But that should not deter you from reading this wonderful and inspiring work.Complete Works of E. M. Bounds on Prayer, The: Experience the Wonders of God through Prayer Overview

Experiencing the Spirit: Developing a Living Relationship with The Holy Spirit ReviewThis is the best book I have read on the subject of experiencing the Holy Spirit's work. The author, understanding most people's difficulty in relating to the Holy Spirit, offers very practical help in learning to know various aspects of the Holy Spirit's ministry in the life of the Christian from salvation to sanctification to the release of spiritual gifts for works of service. The information is helpful toward relating to the Holy Spirit as a Person and not some "Force" or power. It is most encouraging and reviving. I would heartily recommend it as a textbook to be offered to new believer's and quite insightful to mature believer's. This book is filled with Scripture references to reinforce each point along with exciting personal testimonies. It's well worth the price.Experiencing the Spirit: Developing a Living Relationship with The Holy Spirit Overview
