A Gift of Roses ReviewWhen someone finds that they have a gift for receiving wisdom and guidance from a higher power it can be all too easy to accept what is given without question. In this book Barbara not only explains how she intently questions the validity of the truth and wisdom of her spirit guides, as well as questioning their true identity, but she also describes her long battle with her own faith and spiritual beliefs which the whole process precipitated. It's a fascinating read.
Along with this she interweaves a disarmingly truthful account of her life's journey and, in doing so, implicitly sets the tone of her book which, to me, is one of genuineness and truthfulness. I later took up an Eastern pathway; but the author does not exclude anyone who is able to feel inspired from gaining her message. Or, rather His message, because as these things come in their own special ways so it has apparently come through the author/scribe. I recommend the book for the reason that it is a quiet uplifting message all throughout its pages. Yes, it is Christian, but the author has a comparative background. Her pathway is Jesus', but she wants everyone to know about a special message that has God reaching out to humanity--once again.
It is a gentle message of God's love and desire to commune with us. I firmly believe that this work could become a classic work of devotion. Now I Walk on Death Row: A Wall Street Finance Lawyer Stumbles into the Arms of A Loving God ReviewMy father handed me a copy of this manuscript last June, and I stayed up until 3 AM reading the entire book. Even though I witnessed the effects of these events firsthand, I could not put the book down until I reached the end. I was humbly reminded of how grateful I am to have been a part of his amazing journey. While many of my peers have rejected their Christian upbringing as unauthentic and chosen atheism, agnosticism, relativism, or universalism as their way of life, I have incorporated the most important lesson I learned from my father into my life: surrendering my will daily to the will of Christ. He taught me the graces of living out humility and receiving divine mercy.
Though my opinion is likely biased, I am an avid fan of my father's writing. He is a very gifted writer. He is also a wonderful friend, father, and grandfather. I happily give this book 5 stars and will reread it many times over.

I had the opportunity to read Waking Up, Learning What Your Life is Trying To Teach You when I was not yet fully cognizant of the fact that the life I was leading was not only not fulfilling me but that in addition, my spirit and true self were completely comatose. Earle talks about what the poet Rumi calls, "elegant patterning" and that is exactly what I would call the timing of my first reading of Waking Up and the marvelous transformation of my life's path that ensued from there.

This book will challenge and inspire you and if you let it, it will awaken you from life as a sleepy caterpillar and unfold the wings of the splendid, fully aware butterfly existence that waits within us all.

Charismatic Gift of Tongues ReviewBaxter's argument basically hinges on his interpretation of 1 Corinthians 13:9&10.
He argues that the "perfect" in verse 10 is in fact the closing of Scripture and that the gifts no longer apply! I wonder if "knowledge" has also stopped?
He would do well to read Arnold Bittlinger's little book "Gifts and Graces", where he says this " L.Christenson says this--in 1Cor.12:28, GOD has appointed various kinds of tongues. Even if this were the only passage that mentions speaking in tongues, we would have to conclude that this is of abiding value, because GOD has ordained it so". That statement applies to all of the Gifts mentioned in the New Testament! NOTHING has been revoked or withdrawn in Scripture!
I cannot understand how a man of Baxter's integrity and scholarship can overlook verses of Scripture such as 1Cor.12:28 and come to his conclusions!
