Living Gospel Equality Now - Loving in the Heart of God - A Roman Catholic Woman Priest Story ReviewThis well-written book gives a close-up look at a young girl growing up in rural Ireland, who was open to the call of God all through her life, and moving into young adulthood paid close attention to that Call, and answered it...is spades. Being a good friend of God's and trying to follow all the rules of her Catholic Church, she became aware of the obvious inequality her gender faced in that beloved Church, and the gross injustice this represented. Finally, near the beginning of the 21st Century, she came to the cross roads having to choose between following the Spirit and answering God's call, or continuing to obey the long-standing, man-made, unjust Canon Law of the Church banning women from becoming priests. Never one to tolerate injustice in any form, this woman set out to do something about it. And well she did...which is the thrust of this book. This book serves as a great model and guide book for any young ---from 18--88 yrs old--- who thinks she is hearing God calling her to a new level, a higher place on God's `team.,' which women once had in the first 10-12 centuries of the Church, but got taken away until 2003, when several male bishops in good-standing with Rome said, "Enough!" It was then that the first women were ordained as Roman Catholic Womenpriests, and Bridget Mary Meehan was then ordained in 2006.
Not only a wonderful guide for young women---also equally, men--- who are searching for a richer, Spirit-guided life, but the book would serve as a great, long-awaited road map to renew the troubled Catholic Church back to the vision of Jesus and the early Church. If only, please, God, Church hierarchy would listen to and be willing to adopt, the model of an inclusive, compassionate, just, renewed Church that Bridget Mary and the Womenpriests are calling for, hoping for, praying for, we would experience a joyful explosion of the Kingdom of God on earth. This, of course, requires some radical changes in the MO of the Church, especially in the role of bishops, the approach which Bridget Mary spells out so clearly: "....bishops are ordained to serve the community in pastoral, liturgical roles......they have no administrative functions, they are not "in charge" of supervising, or the "boss" of anyone...." On my second reading, I realized this `instruction book' is a must read for anyone who cares for the future of the Church.
